REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION
Agenda Item: 7B7
ACTION:  Approve one-year contract renewals with Dooley Enterprises, Inc., and San Diego Police 
Equipment Company, Inc., for the purchase of ammunition for the Police Department.
FISCAL IMPACT:  Total combined cost of this renewal will not exceed $450,000.  Sufficient funds 
have been appropriated in the General Fund, Cost Center 2251 (Professional Dev Bur), for the 
anticipated expenditure in the current fiscal year and next fiscal year, contingent upon City Council 
approval of the City’s annual budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the contract renewals.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  (T22-084-01, 03) City Council awarded these contracts on March 
2, 2022, for a one-year period with the ability to be renewed for four additional years.  This renewal 
request is for the fourth and final renewal options, and if approved as recommended, the contracts will 
continue through March 2, 2027.   The contracted firms provide a variety of ammunition products 
including duty, practice, frangible, and specialty loads.     
The Police Department is satisfied with the performance of the companies over the recent contract 
period as shown below:

Renewal Pricing
The awarded companies have requested modest price increases based on market conditions that have 
seen increases in freight, raw materials (lead, copper, and brass), and labor.  Dooley Enterprises is 
seeking a 2% increase (average) in pricing and San Diego Police Equipment is seeking a 1% increase

(average) in pricing.  Staff considers these increases to be fair and reasonable based on market 
conditions.
