A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF TEMPE, ARIZONA, 
ESTABLISHING A ONE-TIME CITY HOLIDAY KNOWN 
AS 
THE 
DAY 
OF 
RECOGNITION 
FOR 
WOMEN 
FARMWORKERS TO HONOR THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF 
WOMEN 
THROUGH 
WORK, 
SERVICE, 
AND 
LEADERSHIP.
WHEREAS, women have made significant contributions through their work, service, and 
leadership across all sectors of the community; and
WHEREAS, women’s efforts in the workforce, including in public service, education, 
healthcare, business, politics, and especially in farming and agriculture, have strengthened the City 
of Tempe and improved the well-being of its residents; and 
WHEREAS, women in farming and agricultural roles have played a critical part in 
sustaining local economies, food systems, and agricultural regions in the State of Arizona and the 
United States; and 
WHEREAS, women have demonstrated leadership in advocating for farmworker rights, 
improving working conditions, and supporting agricultural communities; and 
WHEREAS, recognizing the history and accomplishments of women promotes greater 
awareness and appreciation of their role in shaping the community; and 
WHEREAS, the City Council finds it appropriate to establish a one-time observance in 
2026 to honor women in the City for their work and history, especially in the farmworker 
community. 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY 
OF TEMPE, ARIZONA, as follows:
1.
The City hereby establishes a one-time City holiday in calendar year 2026 to be known as 
the “Day of Recognition for Women Farmworkers” which shall be observed on March 31, 
2026. 
2.
The 2026 holiday shall honor women for their employment, service, and historical 
contributions to the community, including their vital roles in farming and agriculture and 
their leadership in advocating for farmworker rights.
3.
City offices that would otherwise close in observance of Cesar Chavez Day shall instead 
observe the Day of Recognition for Women Farmworkers on March 31, 2026.
4.
The City encourages departments, community organizations, and residents to observe the 
one-time holiday through educational programs, events, and initiatives recognize the work

and history of women, including those in farming and agriculture and those who have led 
efforts to advance farmworker rights.
5.
All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict with the provisions of this Resolution are 
hereby repealed to the extent of such conflict.
6.
If any provision of this Resolution is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the 
remaining provisions. 
PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF TEMPE, 
ARIZONA, this 26th day of March, 2026.
