REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Approve a one-year contract renewal with KAAM Group for the purchase of anthracite coal 
media to be used in the production of drinking water.
FISCAL IMPACT:  The total cost of this contract will not exceed $150,000. Sufficient funds have been 
appropriated in the Water and Wastewater Fund, Cost Centers 3013 (Johnny G. Martinez W.T.P.) and 
3014 (South Tempe W.T.P.) for anticipated expenditures during the current fiscal year and next fiscal 
year, contingent upon City Council approval of the City’s annual budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Approve the contract renewal.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  (WUD23-056-01) On November 30, 2023, City Council ratified 
the award of a one-year contract with four, one-year renewal options to KAAM Group for the purchase 
of anthracite coal water filtration media material used in the treatment process in the production of 
drinking water. This contract will be utilized to provide media material as needed to replace existing 
media during the contract period. If approved as recommended, this will be the third of four available 
renewal options.
