REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution authorizing the acceptance and disbursement of grant funds in the total 
amount of $39,173 from the Library Services and Technology Act through the Arizona State Library for 
the Tempe Public Library’s Writers in Residence in Libraries and the Youth Library Interactive Spaces 
programs. (Resolution No. R2026.60)
FISCAL IMPACT:  Tempe has received two one-time grants in the total amount of $39,173 from the 
Arizona State Library. No matching funds are required. Sufficient budget appropriation for expenditure 
of these grants is authorized in the Governmental Grants Fund (Fund 46) as part of the FY 2025-26 
adopted budget. Once approved and the awards are received, the funding will be deposited into a new 
cost center for the Youth Library Interactive Spaces ($34,173). Funding for Writers in Residence in 
Libraries will be deposited into Cost Center 46415 ($5,000).
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2026.60.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  Tempe Public Library applied for and received notification in May 
2026 that it was awarded two grants from Library Services and Technology Act grants through the 
Arizona State Library totaling $39,173. The grant funds will be used for the Writers in Residence in 
Libraries ($5,000) and the Youth Library Interactive Spaces ($34,173) programs. This City Council action 
authorizes the acceptance and disbursement of the grant funds.
