REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution authorizing the Chief of Police or designee(s), to execute an 
intergovernmental agreement between the State of Arizona, Department of Public Safety and the Tempe 
Police Department to accept grant funding for a Police Officer assigned to the Department of Public 
Safety and its Gang and Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission. (Resolution No. 
R2026.62)
FISCAL IMPACT:  The total grant award is for seventy-five percent (75%) of payroll (salary, overtime, 
and benefits) expenses.  The General Fund (cost center 2241) will supplement the remaining twenty-
five percent (25%) funding requirement. This grant award will supplement the Police Department’s 
existing General Fund budget appropriation. Sufficient budget appropriation for expenditure of this grant 
was included as part of the Police Grants and Restricted Revenue (Fund 45) as part of the fiscal year 
2026-27 adopted budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2026.62.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  This intergovernmental agreement with State of Arizona, 
Department of Public Safety will allow the Tempe Police Department to participate in the Gang and 
Immigration Intelligence Team Enforcement Mission State Gang Task Force.  The core mission of the 
task force is to enhance law enforcement services concerning the criminal activities of street gangs 
through the cooperative efforts of all parties.
