REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager or designee(s), to execute an amendment 
to the agreement between the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office and the City of Tempe to participate in 
the Sworn Basic Training. (Resolution No. R2026.63)
FISCAL IMPACT:  Sufficient funds have been appropriated in General Fund – cost center 2258 
(Personnel Services Bureau) for any anticipated expenditures in fiscal year 2026-27. This agreement 
will continue through March 2028.
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2026.63.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  The Tempe Police Department currently utilizes the Training 
Academy at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for the basic training of recruits. This agreement will 
allow the Tempe Police Department to hire officers to maintain staffing levels.
