REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION

ACTION:  Adopt a resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute an intergovernmental agreement 
between Maricopa County and the Tempe Police Department to accept grant funds for benefit expenses 
related to overtime for officers participating in the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area - Maricopa County 
Drug Suppression Task Force. (Resolution No. R2026.65)
FISCAL IMPACT:  The amount of the total grant award is $30,000. This grant award will supplement 
the Police Department’s existing General Fund budget appropriation. Sufficient budget appropriation for 
expenditure of this grant was included as part of the Police Grants and Restricted Revenue (Fund 45) 
as part of the fiscal year 2026-27 adopted budget.
RECOMMENDATION:  Adopt Resolution No. R2026.65.
 
BACKGROUND INFORMATION:  This intergovernmental agreement with Maricopa County acting 
through the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office will fund initiatives for the High Intensity Drug Trafficking 
Area - Maricopa County Drug Suppression Task Force.  This specialized task force investigates criminal 
organizations that operate drug labs and/or distribute narcotics within the State of Arizona.
