Lally To: Maricopa County Planning and Zoning Commission RE: Case # Z2019024 – Cazarez Small Event Venue The purpose of this memo is to request a continuance of regular agenda item # 2, scheduled for the January 26, 2023 P&Z hearing. This is for the Cazarez Small Event Venue Special Use Permit (the “SUP”) – case # Z2019024. We propose a continuance for sixty (60) days to allow our firm additional time to review and address the concerns by Maricopa County Planning & Development staff that lead to the consideration for revocation of the existing approved SUP. Brenda and Miguel Cazarez (the “Owner’s”) have recently retained our services to represent them moving forward. Due to the nature of this uncommon staff proposal to consider revocation of the SUP, the amount of entitlement, permit, and site history, and requirements from the SUP conditions of approval, we appreciate your consideration to allow us the opportunity for additional research and analysis. The Cazarez family is dedicated to resolving these issues by proposing solutions to meet SUP requirements and to be a good neighbor to the surrounding community, while providing a great venue experience for patrons of their event business. Allowing us extra time to assist in these endeavors is crucial to developing resolutions for this SUP that was approved for an event venue by the BOS on January 13, 2021, when the COVID-19 pandemic made it difficult for the event industry to operate. Especially a family business like the Cazarez event site with many required property improvements conditioned as part of the SUP approval.
