The sludge centrifuge separates solids from liquids in sludge using high-speed rotation, a process called de-watering. The centrifuge is a critical component to the wastewater process and an efficient centrifuge is responsible for higher quality effluent water discharge and lower costs on sludge hauling. Typical useful life for this equipment is 15 years. Below is a list of the major maintenance performed on this unit in addition to justification for its replacement:Drive motor has been replaced once.HMI panel (main control panel) has been replaced twice, and is no longer available. Bearings have been replaced three times. Drive unit has been cleaned and rebalanced twice. The internal scroll assembly has to be physically removed by our staff, packed and then sent to California for repairs, none of which can be done here on-site. Hydraulic system is no longer available . The cost to retrofit a new hydraulic system is well over $60,000, not including labor. It should be noted that the previous projects for air scrubbers (FY26 and FY28) were substituted for this project in order to minimize the impact on the wastewater budget. No additional funds are being requested to implement this project.
