SUBJECT: ANNUAL SAFETY ROADEO, RESOLUTION NO. 26-30

Background

Pinal County annually hosts the Safety Roadeo, a skills-based competition designed to
promote the safe operation of heavy equipment and machinery used by public works
professionals. Participants complete a series of tasks that simulate equipment operations
performed during their daily job functions while demonstrating safe work practices,
equipment proficiency and operational knowledge.

The City of Apache Junction Public Works Department has participated in the Safety
Roadeo on multiple occasions, with strong employee participation in recent years.
Participation in the event provides employees with an opportunity to reinforce safe
operating practices, enhance professional development, and share knowledge with
public works personnel from other agencies throughout the region.

Financial Impact
There is no financial impact associated with participation in the Annual Safety Roadeo.

Recommendation

Staff recommends approval of Resolution No. 26-30 authorizing the Mayor to execute an
Intergovernmental Agreement (“IGA") with Pinal County, allowing qualified City
employees to participate in Pinal County's Annual Safety Roadeo.
