Public Outreach Summary
In preparing the proposed 2020 Shared Mobility Pilot Program, staff conducted public
outreach in 2019 as follows:
Public Survey - This survey conducted from June 11 – July 15, 2019 received 457
responses.  Through the survey, residents expressed concerns over safety, blocked
sidewalks and visual clutter.  A slight majority of these respondents preferred that
shared scooters and bicycles not be present in Chandler, but a majority also agreed
that the City should limit the number of scooters allowed in Chandler.
Business Survey – This survey targeted to business owners was conducted over the
same time period and received 22 responses.  A majority of respondents expressed
support for shared scooters in Chandler, with many respondents thinking that shared
scooters could attract new customers to their business.  Most respondents also felt
that the City needs to limit the number of scooters allowed in Chandler.
Public Meeting – A public meeting was held on October 16, 2019 to gather feedback
on the proposed Pilot Shared Mobility Program.  Two members of the public
attended, both of whom were supportive of having shared mobility in Chandler.
Other Outreach – Staff has had discussions with or made presentations to the
Downtown Chandler Community Partnership, Chandler Chamber of Commerce, the
Chandler Rotary Club, and the Airport, Development Services, and Public Works and
Utilities Council Subcommittee.  Some questions were raised over safety and scooter
parking in the downtown area, but no major concerns over the presence of shared
mobility devices or the City’s proposed approach were expressed.
