DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION Chandler City Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 East Chicago Street Chandler, Arizona 85225 Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 9:00 a.m. Pursuant to Resolution No. 4464 of the City of Chandler and to A.R.S. 38-431.02, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN to the members of the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION and to the general public that the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION will hold a meeting open to the public on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at 9:00 a.m., at the Chandler City Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 East Chicago Street, Chandler, Arizona. (Agendas are available in the Office of the City Clerk, 175 S. Arizona Avenue.) Dated: 10/11/2021 9:10 a.m. MINUTES OF THE DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY CHAIR HINCHEY AT 9:00 am 1. CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL PRESENT: Torey Gannon Commissioner Polly Knape Commissioner Ruth Tan Lim Commissioner Teresa Lynn Commissioner Dawn Curtis Commissioner Aleshia Fessell Commissioner Gretchen Long Commissioner EXCUSED: Samantha Hinchey Chair Chelsea Grieve Vice-Chair Nicole Bruno Commissioner ALSO IN ATTENDANCE: Katie Cain - Chandler Police Victim Services Coordinator & Staff Liaison Nicole Valerio - Chandler Police Victim Services Intern 2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A. MOTION by Commissioner Lynn to approve minutes from September 8, 2021. SECONDED by Commissioner Knape. CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY. 3. SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES/CALL TO PUBLIC (Members of the audience may address any item not on the agenda. State Statute prohibits the Domestic Violence Commission from discussing an item that is not on the agenda, but the Domestic Violence Commission does listen to your concerns and has staff follow up on any questions you raise.) 4. ACTION AGENDA A. None. 5. BRIEFING ITEMS A. 2021 Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Event – discussion of event. Commissioner Gannon shared there were challenges getting speakers for the event. Issues with zoom and bar showing on screen, host screen was showing things differently than the guests, also adjusting the volume. Mayor greeting was shorter than in the past and proclamation had been shortened. Speakers were respectful. Attendance has been low the past two years, possibly due to being a virtual event. Vice-Chair Grieve and Chair Hinchey did a great job. Chair Hinchey will be sending out Thank You cards. 6. MEMBERS COMMENTS / ANNOUNCEMENTS A. Commissioner Nicole Jastrab has resigned. B. Welcome Community Legal Service/Alternate Commissioner Korin Waltersdorf. C. Commissioner Curtis shared she attended the Lighting Arizona Purple event. There was a lower attendance than in the past. D. Starting later this year, the agenda will be on-line and Commission will be emailed information about these changes. Katie Cain’s team will be facilitating some meetings and serving as Staff Liaisons in the new year. 7. CALENDAR A. Next meeting will be November 10, 2021. 8. INFORMATION ITEMS A. Calendar of Prospective Events for 2021 and 2022 – tabled 9.
