Her passion for design combined with a fascination for research and history combines two essentials for creating public art that is responsive to community and honors origins. Experience meeting with community enhances her ability to deal with public issues and concerns. A native of San Diego CA, Rachel has lived with her husband Timothy and their 3 sons in an adobe casita in Tucson AZ since 2004. Timothy Schirack has been married to Rachel for 18 years, and contributes his expertise as fabrication and installation manager. He was educated at Cleveland Institiute of Art. Their exterior and interior artworks are featured in the permanent collections of cities across the U.S., enhancing such locations as Park City Utah’s central transit station, Santa Clarita California’s Aquatic Center, Cleveland Ohio’s Rapid Transit Authority at Shaker Heights, Tucson International Airport, Helen Keeling Elementary and Rio Vista Elementary School, Scottsdale AZ Civic Center Library, and the North Poconos PA Public Library. Building community includes honoring public servants like Mark David “Bo” Boulanger who have made the ultimate sacrifice. As the lead artist/designer in a team of two, I have been designing, fabricating and installing public art across the nation since 1999. My partner Timothy Schirack contributes to the team effort as lead fabrication and installation manager. Inspirations we will draw from for this project are based on factual research welcoming the opportunity to learn more about Mark Boulanger as a person, as well as celebrating the key values of firefighting. As well as having sensitivity for site and good design, we must also know how creative concepts translate to a physical work of art with durability safety and code compliance. We have created artwork at East and Westbound platforms for Cleveland Ohio’s Rapid Transit Authority, Park City Utah’s central transit station, Park entry art in Mountainview CA, Crosswalk art for Keeling elementary School in Tucson, and a Safe Routes to School project also in Tucson AZ. We recently completed a large scale artwork for Tucson International Airport. Recent budgets range from $15,000 to $100,000. We are proud to say that in every instance, we have completed our commissions on time and within budget. I look forward to sharing my ideas to honor Mark Boulanger and the important work all fire departments provide. Sincerely Rachel Slick
