For 25+ years the Chandler Public Housing Youth program has been

providing high quality after school, break and special event programing,
directly to our youth living in public housing. Our vehicles are in urgent
need of replacement to allow us to continue to deliver our programming.

1. The proposed program or project, and whether it is a new or
continuing project;

We are requesting funds to replace our failing vehicles to continue
providing after school, break and special event programing of the highest
quality as the Housing Youth Program has continually done for over 25
years. Our vehicles are used to transport youth living in chandler’s 4
public housing family sites to our youth center, where our computer lab

and other activities are located as well as field trips and break locations
such as neighborhood parks, recreation centers and special events,

2. The purpose of the program or project and how it meets one or
more of Fort McDowell’s funding priorities (i.e., education, public
safety, health, environment, and economic and community
development);

The purpose of our program is to provide high quality after school, break
and special event programing for youth living in Chandler public housing
family sites, We also use our vehicles to deliver high quality books to
youth living in our scattered public housing sites located across the city of
Chandler,

While our program does provide educational content and we are looking
to improve public safety by updating our vehicles, I feel the funding
priority that our program meets the most is community development. We
are always trying to develop our youth in these communities and provide
them with the tools to create lasting change within the community.
Transport is often a barrier for many of our participants, who reside in
public housing. Having the capacity to transport many youth at the same
time is imperative to our programing and one less thing for their parents to
worry about. We use vehicles to transport as many of our participants as
possible to local community events as we feel it is extremely important
our youth feel a sense of belonging and inclusion within their community.

3. The need that the program or project aims to fulfill, the population
targeted, and the estimated number of people who will be served by
the grant;

The immediate need is to replace our failing vehicles and ensure our
ability to continue providing transportation to our youth participants. Our
primary target population resides within the 85225 zip code of Chandler,
AZ and we anticipate serving 250 unduplicated low income youth.

4. The partners in the program or project, and other entities
providing funding and support (please indicate whether the
organization will be submitting applications to any other tribes); and,

We partner with many local Chandler organizations such as the Salvation
Anmy, Chandler Library, Chandler Boys & Girls Club, YMCA among
others who support our program by providing opportunities and partnering
on projects,

Our program is primarily funded by the Community Development Block i
Grant fund and currently has a pending application for the 22-23 financial
year.

We have submitted an application to the Gila River Indian Community for
the same project of replacing our vehicles this grant cycle. With funding
sources having typically less funds available than past years due to covid
funding drying up, we wanted to spread out our search for additional
funding to increase our chances of success.

5. The timetable for implementation of the program or project

As soon as we have funds secured, we will start the process of procuring
vehicles. We are anticipating continued supply chain disruption so our
timeline may be at the mercy of this, but we would hope to have taken
delivery of the vehicles by the end of 2022.

Quote obtained from San Tan Ford in Gilbert, AZ. 10% added for inflation and supply
chain issues. This will be our ADA compliant vehicle for use within the Chandler
Housing Youth Program to transport low income, at risk youth.

chain issues. This vehicle will replace our failing, unsupported Collins Bus which is 15
years old, This vehicle will be used within the Chandler Housing Youth Program to
transport low income, at risk youth,
