MINUTES OF THE HOUSING AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION SPECIAL POPULATIONS SUBCOMMITTEE Neighborhood Resources Department Virtually via Webex Phone: (415) 655-0001, Access Code: 2594-154-8559 Monday, March 28, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL Subcommittee Chair Steve Tepper called the Special Populations Subcommittee to order at 5:32 p.m. Subcommittee Members present on Webex: Vanessa Dearmon, Steve Tepper, Megha Dholakia, and Kathryn Kruithoff. Subcommittee Members absent: David Gonzalez (excused) and Iliamari Vazquez Houston (excused). Staff present: Riann Balch, Community Resources Manager, Karin Bishop, Community Development & Resources Supervisor, Dylan Raymond, Community Resources Coordinator, Tawn Kao, Assistant City Attorney, and Monica Thompson, Community Development Coordinator. Public Present: None. Action Agenda 1. Evaluation, Discussion, and Development of Recommendation for Funding for FY2022- 2023 General Fund Special Population Proposals. Community Resources Coordinator Dylan Raymond provided an update on the funds available for allocation for FY 2022-2023 General Fund Special Populations proposals and the $10,000 minimum for allocation. Subcommittee Chair Steve Tepper facilitated a discussion of each of the following FY 2022-2023 General Fund Special Populations proposals. Commission and Panel Members made initial funding recommendations to be presented to the Housing and Human Services Commission at the next special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. • About Care, Inc. – Empowering Independent Living o Recommendation: $15,000 • AZCEND – Senior Nutrition Program o Recommendation: $96,712.72 • Chandler Gilbert Arc – Employment Program o Recommendation: $0 • City Help, Inc. – DBA East Valley Dream Center o Recommendation: $0 • East Valley JCC- JBox Seniors in Need o Recommendation: $25,000 • EMPACT – Suicide Prevention Center (SPC) – Senior Peer Counseling o Recommendation: $13,365 • Neighbors Who Care, Inc. – Aging in Place o Recommendation: $18,000 • Operation Shockwave – Pups and Warriors Side by Side (P.A.W.S.S) o Recommendation: $20,000 • Raising Special Kids – Navigating Health Care and Education Systems for Families of Children with Disabilities o Recommendation: $0 • Recreation and Athletics for Individuals with Disabilities (RAD) – Payment for Assistance for Individuals with Disability (PAID) o Recommendation: $0 • Resurrection Street Ministry, Inc. – Driving Our Veterans 2022 o Recommendation: $10,000 Motion: Subcommittee Chair Steve Tepper made a motion to approve the initial funding recommendations for FY 2022-2023 General Fund Special Populations proposals. Subcommittee member Kathryn Kruithoff seconded the motion. Discussion: None. Results: Motion passed 4-0.
