"Fire and Fight" was designed to draw eyes from passers by like a bright red fire 
engine. When viewed from the front the sculpture takes the shape of the maltese 
cross- referencing the history of firefighters as protectors- and their willingness 
to lay down their own lives to save others. As viewers move around the work the 
shape changes from maltese to flame as seen from the sides; creating a tension 
between ideas (chaos and control) or more specifically: fire and fighter. Centered 
focally in the piece, the ladder, the hat, the axe, and the hose remind viewers that 
firefighters place themselves in the centers of fires whenever necessary and these 
tools specifically are some of the most iconic and enduring firefighters use to 
do their job. Inside the walls of the work itself are blue silhouettes- on one side a 
mountain, on the other a couple of buildings- these painted additions make 
reference to chandler, AZ and the surrounding area in which the Chandler FD 
serve as first responders. Last but not least is a bronze badge on the 
foundation of which the piece stands- this badge will remember Mark “Bo” 
Boulanger and his commitment to save lives. I thank you for the opportunity to put 
forth this proposal and for your service to fighting fires and protecting our 
communities.

allocated towards plinth and lighting- further discussions will be 
necessary to determine if these line items can be worked into 
the overall build project budget- cost for pouring the concrete, 
running power and installing uplighting may exceed the available
