Setting Service in Motion
This custom design created for Fire Station 2 in Chandler AZ puts a spotlight on the diversity of
services a fire station provides to the community.
As the National fallen firefighters foundation states, “Bo” Boulanger was far more than the title
“Firefighter”. His passion as a mentor and supporting a safe community is honored by the character
and details of this work of art.
The sculpture depicts a
larger than life firefighter
setting a series of
symbolic gears in
motion,
illustrating how a fire
department’s response
to every emergency sets
the care of a community
in motion.
The firefighter, in protective gear and helmet, is a figurehead and hero of
the fire department in the minds of the everyday person. But there is a lot of
support personnel that backs that romantic figure up, from mechanics to
administrators, dispatch staff, and more.
Each gear in this design contains symbolic details honoring that
complexity; Including people in firefighting apparatus, EMT’s, paramedics, support
personnel, fire axes, the Maltese cross, fire bugles, fire dogs, and station cats.
This design concept expresses the complex nature of Fire Station 2 and the great
value it provides to Chandler.
With this comprehensive celebration of protecting the community, we look forward to
moving on to the next phase of this project.
Technical Details
Base: Site poured light grey concrete, 2’tall, 3’deep, 19’.5” long.
Sculpture: Multiple pieces non rusting metal ½” to 2” thickness.
Coloring is a durable industrial powdercoat.
The design images presents a color scheme of
blue/green patina with bright splashes of copper.
(no actual copper metal will be used..
it’s all powder coatings and patinas)
These colors offer a soothing palette of blues and greens,
providing a striking contrast to the red brick of the station
and the hot Arizona sky.
Steel anchor posts will be sandwiched inside layers and will not be
visible.
