PRESENT: Barbara Meyerson, Calvenea Malloy, Jacki Ryan, Joan Clark, Joshua Askey,
Maris Thomas, Martin Sepulveda, and Tom Escobedo
ABSENT: Brenda Abney and Michelle Reid

CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m. by Tom Escobedo, at
the Chandler Museum, Saguaro Room, 300 S. Chandler Village Drive in Chandler, AZ,
and virtually via WebEx, Phone #1-602-666-0783, Meeting #2591 929 6788.
SCHEDULE/UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES/CALL TO THE PUBLIC:
Welcome to Jacki Ryan, new Museum Foundation Board Member. Jacki has served
on the Chandler Historical Society and is a long-time Chandler resident. We are happy
to have Jacki serving on the Museum Foundation Board!
CONSENT AGENDA
a. Approve meeting minutes of April 18, 2022
• Joan Clark made a motion to approve the meeting minutes from April
18, 2022.
• Maris Thomas seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously
approved. The minutes were approved as written.
ACTION AGENDA
None.
BRIEFING ITEMS
a. Nominations for Museum Foundation Officers
o Term for officers is two years.
o Nominations are being taken from now until June 17, 2022.
o Elections will be at the June 20th Museum Foundation Board Meeting.
b. Financial Update
• Financial reports were distributed to the board members.
• Maris Thomas reviewed the Statement of Financial Position Statement
and Statement of Activity by Month.
• There will be more donations from the Chandler Historical Society.
Those checks are for specific programs, which will be identified.
• Discussion regarding membership levels and options. This topic will be
discussed in more detail at a future board meeting.
• Jody Crago will draft a letter to thank the Chandler Historical Society
(CHS) for the donations to the Museum Foundation Board. Once the
letter is reviewed and finalized, it will be mailed to all the CHS members.
• There is a plan to have an event in the spring for the Chandler Historical
Society and Chandler Museum Board.
c. Review Draft of Museum Foundation FY2022-2023 Budget
• The Draft of the Museum Foundation Budget for Fiscal Year (FY) 2022-
2023 was distributed and reviewed.
• Some items to note are:
o There is a 100% mark-up for Museum Store items.
o Income is based on last 1 ½ years of store sales.
o The rental program is not being marketed at this time, but it will
be soon.
• Contact Jody Crago if there are any questions or you would like more in-
depth information on the budget lines,
d. Strategic Planning Subcommittee Report
• Strategic Planning Subcommittee Members discussed the board
retreat.
• Topics discussed were:
o Goals for the Board Retreat
o Desired Outcome from the Board Retreat
o Retreat Requirements
• A handout was distributed to the Museum Foundation Board Members
outlining more information for each of the retreat topics.
• The subcommittee also discussed facilitator requirements and options.
The facilitator should not be a board member or Museum staff.
• Any board member who has someone in mind who can facilitate the
board retreat needs to send that person’s name, contact information,
and information on experience (if available) to Jody Crago by Tuesday,
May 31, 2022.
• Possible retreat dates and location options will be discussed at the next
Museum Foundation Board Meeting, which is June 20, 2022.
• Barbara Meyerson thanked Joan Clark for streamlining all the ideas
from the subcommittee meeting and formatting them into 3 points for
the retreat outcome.
e. Tumbleweed Ranch Master Plan Update
• The City of Chandler has contracted with Weddle Gilmore Architects,
LLC for the Tumbleweed Ranch Master Plan for the conceptual design.
• Forming a planning group to formulate general approaches to fashion
Tumbleweed Ranch into a true community ranch.
• Jody Crago will continue to keep the board updated as the project
develops.
f. City Update
• The Museum staff is changing exhibitions soon.
o “American Farmer” closes May 25, 2022.
o “In the Fields of the North” will run June 14-August 28, 2022.
o A portion of the Smithsonian’s “Bittersweet Harvest: The Bracero
Program, 1942-1964” will be in the Price Gallery. It will run at the
same time as “In the Fields of the North” (June 14-August 28,
2022).
• The Museum collaborated with Intel to present Intel’s impact on
Chandler and Chandler’s impact on Intel in a Voices of Chandler:
Podcast Live segment.
MEMBERS COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
The Museum Foundation Board currently has 10 board members and is looking for
one more person to join the board. Interested applicants should submit an
application at https://www.chandleraz.gov/government/boards-and-
commissions/application-to-serve
Museum staff will collect current contact information from each board member and
update the contact document. Once completed, Museum staff will send the updated
contact information to all board members.
CALENDAR
a. Next meeting will be Monday, June 20, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. Meeting format
will be hybrid (in-person at the Museum or virtually/calling in via WebEx).
ADJOURN
With no other business to discuss, Maris Thomas made a motion to adjourn the
meeting. Barbara Meyerson seconded the motion. The motion was unanimously
approved. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 p.m.
