Information Items
Rosemary Rosales - City of Chandler - Sr. Asst. City Attorney and Victoria Roedig - City of
Chandler - City Records Management Coordinator – gave information on Open Meeting Laws
for the Commission. All public bodies must comply with Open Meeting Laws. Arizona Revised
Statues 38-431.09 states that the public’s business must be done in public. It must be property
noticed, Agendas must be posted, there must be a quorum in order to meet, and notice needs
to be given 24 hours prior. The only time the public cannot be present would be in an executive
session, which would for confidentiality reasons. Make sure you are not doing a Reply All to
emails, discussing items on social media, or discussing Commission items with other
Commission members outside of the meeting and at social events. Emails, texts, social media
and applications can be requested and may be released to the public. Conflict of interest can
affect some Commissions. Commissioner will excuse themselves if there is a conflict of
interest.
