RESOLUTION NO. 5598 
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, 
ARIZONA, DESIGNATING THE SOUTHSIDE VILLAGE NEIGHBORHOOD 
AS A HISTORIC CONSERVATION DISTRICT TO HONOR THE HISTORY 
AND HERITAGE OF SOUTHSIDE VILLAGE, LOCATED IN THE 
SOUTHEAST QUADRANT OF ARIZONA AVENUE AND FRYE ROAD 
BOUNDED BY ARIZONA AVENUE TO THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD 
TRACKS AND BY FRYE ROAD TO PECOS ROAD. 
 
WHEREAS, on November 2, 2020, the Chandler City Council adopted Ordinance 4936, creating 
a historic preservation program and allowing the Chandler City Council to adopt historic 
designations for properties; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Historic Conservation District is one such designation that serves to recognize 
the history of a given district and encourage preservation of remaining historic context; and 
 
WHEREAS, a group of Southside Village residents applied for a Historic Conservation District to 
be established in their community; and 
 
WHEREAS, a public hearing was held on June 30, 2022, by the Historic Preservation Commission 
to consider public input regarding the proposed Historic Conservation District; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Chandler City Council recognizes the importance of honoring and encouraging 
the preservation of historic resources; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Chandler City Council recognizes the Southside Village neighborhood as a place 
of historic importance to the City of Chandler. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, 
as follows: 
 
Section 1.   Designates the Southside Village neighborhood of Chandler as a Historic 
Conservation District. A map depicting the territory contained in the Southside Village 
Historic Conservation District is attached as Exhibit A to this Resolution.
