MAYOR'S YOUTH COMMISSION 125 East Commonwealth Avenue, Community Center Room 115 Tuesday, April 12, 2022 - 6:00 p.m. MINUTES 1) Call To Order/Roll Call Chair Dhanya Charan called the meeting to order at 6:05 p.m. Members present: Dhanya Charan, Hiyun Lee, Amitesh Bharati, Layth Abdelkarim, Anthony Bushard, Joseph Bushard, Aashika Dupati, Ziqing Kuang, Sanvi Lamba, Jenna Lee, Jahnavi Nair, Arnav Nigam, Dipti Patel, Arman Patra, Nivid Singhania, Audrey Tungkagi Members absent: Gabriela Gant, Jacob Marson Others present: Shea Lee 2) Approval of Minutes a) Minutes of March 8, 2022. Approved at 6:06 p.m. Dipti Patel moved to approve the March 8th, 2022 minutes, motion seconded by Aashika Dupati 3) Scheduled/Unscheduled public appearances a) None 4) Action Agenda a) Election of Officers i) Aashika Dupati and Arnav Nigam both ran for the Secretary position. Dipti Patel, Audrey Tungkagi, and Amitesh Bharati ran for the Vice-Chair position. Hiyun Lee ran for the Chair position. 5) Briefing Items a) End of the Year Celebration i) Alexis Apodaca explains that the end of the year celebration is going to be on May 31st at Jakes Unlimited/Amazing Jakes. She tells the commission they need to RSVP by May 17th. She explains how transportation to the event will not be provided and that only members and repeating guests will have their admission paid for ii) Dhanya Charan explains how seniors who are leaving the commission will be receiving a senior gift and says that the officers decided that the senior gift would be a $25 gift card or a Chandler polo with a gift card with a smaller amount of money. Alexis Apodaca estimates the gift card would only be $5 if they got the pollo. Dhanya Charan also says that all seniors leaving the commission will also receive a card b) Arizona League of Cities and Towns Conference i) Alexis Apodaca explains how there is an annual conference where the 91 cities in Arizona come together to talk about city issues. She explains that there is a youth track that involves programming about learning about the government. She mentions it’s in late August to early September and says that she will need to coordinate information through email since there won’t be a meeting until September c) Staff Update i) Alexis Apodaca makes sure that all the commission members signed the cards for Trevor and Nia. She also confirms which members are terming out and can reapply. ii) Alexis Apodaca tells the commission the results of the Commission. Hiyun Lee will become next year’s Chair, Amitesh Bharati will become next year’s Vce-Chair, and Arnav Nigam will become next year’s Secretary iii) Alexis Apodaca tells the commission that next year’s meetings will start at 5:00 p.m 6) Member Comments/Announcements a) None 7) Calendar a) End of Year Celebration - May 31, 2022, 11am - 4pm 8) Information Items a) Budget as of 3/1/2022: $1222.09 9) Adjournment a) Arman Patra motioned for the adjourning of the April 11th meeting, motion seconded by Dipti Patel. Chair Dhanya Charan adjourned the meeting at 6:43 p.m.
