MILITARY & VETERAN’S AFFAIRS COMMISSION
REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
SEPTEMBER 13, 2022
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Dalpe called the meeting to order on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at 5:00
p.m.

2. ACTION AGENDA
a. Approval of the Minutes of the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission
Regular Meeting of August 9, 2022
Chair Dalpe requested a motion for approval of the minutes for the August 9,
2022, Military and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting. Vice-Chair Facciponti
made the motion to approve the minutes of the August 9, 2022, minutes.
Commissioner Simon seconded the motion.

The minutes were approved 5-0 by all Commission members present.
3. DISCUSSION
a. Chandler Public Library “Our Stories” Program – Jean Reynolds, Cultural
Affairs Coordinator
Ms. Jean Reynolds, Cultural Affairs Coordinator, shared the “Our Stories”
Program, available through the City of Chandler Community Services
Department. Ms. Reynolds explained that the program is presented each month
by the Chandler Public Library and the Chandler Museum. Various speakers
discuss their Arizona experiences. Ms. Reynolds asked if the Commission would
be able to recommend someone for the November 19, 2022, event that could
focus on a veteran’s perspective. Discussion ensued.
b. Update – Veteran’s Day Event, November 11, 2022
Commissioner Simon and Vice-Chair Facciponti shared progress on the
November 11 event which is on-track. Chandler Fire and Chandler Police will
participate and a fly-over is being coordinated. Discussion ensued.
c. Update – Veteran’s Day Event, November 12, 2022
Vice-Chair Facciponti shared that this event will be moved to Spring of 2023.
d. Update – Town Hall Event for Chandler Veterans
Vice-Chair Facciponti shared that the Town Hall event will take place on
Saturday, December 3, 2022, at Tumbleweed Recreation Center, 745 E. Germann
Rd., Chandler, 85286 from 9-12 p.m. Mr. Thomas Allen indicated that financial
support for the event will be discussed with Vice-Chair Facciponti, Andy Bass,
and himself. Discussion ensued.
e. Service Recognition Event
Chair Dalpe said he has reached out to the various military branches about the
event. All branches have agreed to participate in the event.
4. MEMBER COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
a. Vice-Chair Facciponti shared that March 25, 2022, will be Honor Day and March
30 will be Vietnam Veteran Day, 2022.

a. None.
6. CALENDAR ITEMS
b. Stand Up for Veterans, Saturday, September 24, 2022, from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
at Arizona Christian University, 1 Firestorm Way, Glendale, Arizona, 85306 Next
meeting will be Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
c. Arizona Vietnam Veterans Dinner, Saturday, October 8 from 5:30 p.m. - 10:00
p.m., Scottsdale Plaza Resort, 7200 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale, Arizona
85253.
d. The Veteran Medical Leadership Council will be holding a fundraising luncheon
on November 10, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Phoenix Biltmore
Hotel, 2400 E. Missouri Ave., Phoenix, 85016
e. Veteran's Breakfast, Friday, November 4, 2022, at the Chandler Community
Center, 125 E. Commonwealth Ave., Chandler, 85225. Registration is required.
f. The next meeting will be Tuesday, October 11, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.
7. ADJOURNMENT
With no further items, Chair Dalpe adjourned the meeting at 5:23p.m.
