Meeting Minutes Public Safety Fire Personnel Retirement Board Regular Meeting October 5, 2022, | 8:45 a.m. City Hall, 2nd Floor, Training Room B 175 S. September 7, 2022 Minutes Regular Meeting Minutes of Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Page 2 of 4 Consent Agenda Motion and Vote Fire Member Elect Jensen moved to approve the Consent Agenda of the September 7, 2022 Regular Public Safety Fire Personnel Retirement Board Meeting. Motion was seconded by Fire Member Elect Vargas. Motion carried unanimously (3-0). Executive Session – Pursuant to A.R.S. Section 38-431.02 (A), the Chandler Local Fire Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board may vote to convene in executive session to discuss or consider confidential records exempt by law from public inspection and/or to consult with Board’s attorney for legal advice and to consider the Board’s position and to instruct the Board’s attorney regarding its position on item(s) 2-4. The Board will take action on those items in open session. Action Agenda Item No. 2 and Discussion 2. New Membership for Anderson, Bieggar, Block, Bochsler, Cameron, Carey, Figueroa, Garner, Howard, Lucas, McBurney, Montgomery, O’Hare, Pereda, Ruff, Sarmiento and Turner. Consideration, Discussion and Appropriate Action for New Membership for Collin Anderson, Brian Bieggar, Carter Block, Samuel Bochsler, Ethan Cameron, Joseph Carey, James Figueroa, John Garner, Brian Howard, Mikel Lucas, Austin McBurney, Tayton Montgomery, Jonah O’Hare, Rachael Pereda, Ryan Ruff, Elio Sarmiento and Maurice Turner. Action Agenda Item No. 2 Motion and Vote Fire Member Elect Vargas moved to find that the following Fire Recruits met the applicable PSPRS membership definitions for service with the City of Chandler Fire Department. Collin Anderson and Maurice Turner (Lateral Firefighters) date of hire of September 6, 2022. AND Brian Bieggar, Carter Block, Samuel Bochsler, Ethan Cameron, Joseph Carey, James Figueroa, John Garner, Brian Howard, Mikel Lucas, Austin McBurney, Tayton Montgomery, Jonah O’Hare, Rachael Pereda, Ryan Ruff and Elio Sarmiento with a date of hire of September 6, 2022 and a Tier 3 service date of December 5, 2022. Motion was seconded by Fire Member Elect Jensen. Motion carried unanimously (3-0) Page 3 of 4 Action Agenda Item No. 3 and Discussion 3. Review Pre-Existing Condition(s) for Brian Bieggar, Ethan Cameron, Brian Howard, Mikel Lucas, Jonah O’Hare, Rachael Pereda and Elio Sarmiento. Consideration, Discussion and Appropriate Action for Pre-existing Condition(s) for Brian Bieggar, Ethan Cameron, Brian Howard, Mikel Lucas, Jonah O’Hare, Rachael Pereda and Elio Sarmiento. Action Agenda Item No. 3 Motion and Vote Fire Member Elect Jensen moved to declare no Pre-existing Condition(s) for Brian Bieggar, Ethan Cameron, Brian Howard, Mikel Lucas, Jonah O’Hare, Rachael Pereda and Elio Sarmiento. Motion was seconded by Fire Member Elect Vargas. Motion carried unanimously (3-0) Action Agenda Item No. 4 and Discussion 4. Membership Termination Hormell Consideration, Discussion and Appropriate Action regarding the voluntary resignation of employment and termination of PSPRS membership for Michael Hormell (Firefighter), effective September 5, 2022. Executive Session – Citizen Member Crawford asked for a motion to end the Open Session and to move to Executive Session for legal advice. Fire Member Elect Jensen made a motion to end the Open Session and to move into Executive Session for legal advice in the matter of Action Agenda Item No. 4. Fire Member Elect Vargas seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous to end the Open Session and move into Executive Session at 8:53 a.m. Open Session – Citizen Member Crawford asked for a motion to end the Executive Session and move into Open Session. Fire Member Elect Jensen made the motion to end the Executive Session and move into Open Session; Fire Elect Member Vargas seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous to end the Executive Session and move into Open Session at 8:58 a.m. Action Agenda Item No. 4 Motion and Vote Fire Member Elect Jensen moved to terminate the PSPRS membership for Michael Hormell (Firefighter), effective September 5, 2022, the date of his voluntary resignation. Motion was seconded by Fire Member Elect Vargas. Page 4 of 4 Motion carried unanimously (3-0) Member Comments/Announcements Calendar 5.
