Meeting Minutes Mayor’s Youth Commission Regular Meeting November 8, 2022, 5:00 p.m. 5th Floor Conference Room 175 S. JOSH WRIGHT introduced himself to the commission. Josh let Commissioners know that he wanted to introduce the Commissioners to City Management. He explained that he reports to the City Council and he talked about city government systems. He explained what powers are within a City Manager’s role, including the hiring of staff to do the “people work” of the government like public safety, libraries, etc. He explained that Council is a policymaking body - If the City Council gets a 4/7 majority, then they can then ask the City Manager to implement. He discussed the history behind the Council-Manager form of government, and how the more West you go in the U.S., the more common this form of government is. He wrapped up by discussing his background, how he got into city management, and what his daily work life looks like. Unscheduled Public Appearances None. Action Agenda 2. October 11, 2022 Minutes. Approval of the October 11, 2022 Mayor’s Youth Commission minutes. Action Agenda Motion and Vote COMMISSIONER ONG moved to approve the October 11, 2022 Mayor’s Youth Commission meeting minutes. Seconded by COMMISSIONER SIVAKUMARAN. Motion carried unanimously (16-0-3). Discussion 3. Mayor’s Youth Commission Event Expectations CHAIR LEE reminded Commissioners of their participation requirements and exectations when volunteering on behalf of the Mayors Youth Commission. 4. Volunteer Opportunity – Parade of Lights Judges VICE CHAIR BHARATI informed participants about Mayors Youth Commission participation in this event. 5. Volunteer Opportunity – Senior Holiday Dinner Dance Page 3 of 3 VICE CHAIR BHARATI introduced this volunteer opportunity to Commissioners. Commissioners will volunteer with the Community Services Department on Friday, December 2nd from 5:15pm – 9:00pm to help serve food and facilitate a night out for seniors that attend the Chandler Senior Center. Briefing 6. Event Debrief – For Our City Day COMMISSIONER LEE provided a debrief of the event. Commissioners rode around with code inspectors helping them cut trees, loading up garbage trucks, and assisting as needed. Volunteers noted that it was interesting to see the neighborhood and after a few hours of work, the neighborhood transformed. 7. Event Debrief – Special Events Funding Panel COMMISSIONER SINGHANIA provided a debrief of the volunteer opportunity. There were many organizations to consider for funding, and panelists decided how much money to give to the nonprofits that applied. 8. Teen Leadership Academy Planning Commissioners broke out into small groups and continued to plan the Teen Leadership Academy. Member Comments/Announcements None. Calendar 8. Parade of Lights Judging – Saturday, December 3rd, 5:00pm – 6:30pm The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 13th, 2022, at 5:00 p.m., at Chandler City Hall, 5th Floor Conference Room, 175 S.
