Resolution 5649 Auto Aid IGA

RESOLUTION NO. 5649 
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, 
ARIZONA, APPROVING AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT FOR 
THE REGIONAL METROPOLITAN PHOENIX FIRE SERVICE AUTOMATIC 
AID. 
 
WHEREAS, the 2017 Intergovernmental Agreement for the Regional Metropolitan Phoenix Fire 
Service Automatic Aid previously entered into by the City of Chandler and various cities, towns, 
fire districts, and governmental jurisdictions (the “Participants”) is set to expire on December 19, 
2022; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Participants wish to enter into a new intergovernmental agreement to continue 
their Automatic Aid System that provides automatic assistance for fires and other types of 
emergency incidents as described under the terms of the proposed Intergovernmental Agreement 
for the Regional Metropolitan Phoenix Fire Service Automatic Aid, to be effective December 20, 
2022 (the “IGA”); and 
 
WHEREAS, pursuant to A.R.S. § 26-308(A), each county and incorporated city and town of the 
state may appropriate and expend funds, make contracts and obtain and distribute equipment, 
materials, and supplies for emergency management purposes; and 
 
WHEREAS, the IGA encourages the development of cooperative procedures and protocols, 
ensures that Participants dispatch their respective assigned fire department/district units on an 
automatic basis, and fosters improvement in the nature and coordination of emergency assistance 
to incidents that threaten the loss of life or property within the geographic boundaries of the 
respective jurisdictions. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, 
as follows: 
 
Section 1. 
Approving the Intergovernmental Agreement for the Regional Metropolitan 
Phoenix Fire Service Automatic Aid with an effective date of December 20, 2022. 
 
Section 2. 
Authorizing the City Manager or his designee to execute the Intergovernmental 
Agreement on behalf of the City of Chandler. 
 
Section 3. 
Authorizing City staff to perform all acts necessary to give effect to this Resolution 
and comply with the terms of the Intergovernmental Agreement.
