Action Agenda and Discussion 
1.  
Election of Vice Mayor 
Move City Council elect a Vice Mayor of the Council with a term beginning January 13, 2023, 
and ending January 11, 2024. 
 
Action Agenda Motion and Vote 
Mayor Hartke moved to elect Councilmember Matt Orlando as Vice Mayor of the Council with a 
term beginning January 13, 2023, and ending January 11, 2024; Seconded by Councilmember 
Stewart.  
 
Motion to elect Councilmember Orlando as Vice Mayor carried unanimously (7-0). 
 
Current Events 
Mayor's Announcements 
MAYOR HARTKE invited the audience to the Multicultural Festival on Saturday, January 14, from 
11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., at Dr. A. J. Chandler Park Stage Plaza to celebrate the cultural diversity of 
our community.  
 
MAYOR HARTKE gave a reminder that Monday, January 16, is Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we 
will honor his legacy.  
 
MAYOR HARTKE announced the Chandler International Film Festival will be taking place January 
21 to January 29, in Chandler. The festival will showcase over 120 films.  
 
MAYOR HARTKE wished everyone a happy Lunar New Year.  
 
Council's Announcements 
COUNCILMEMBER HARRIS announced the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Awards on Friday, January 13 
at Soho63 recognizing recipients of the awards.

COUNCILMEMBER HARRIS mentioned the Candlelight Vigil for Martin Luther King Jr. event on 
Sunday, January 15, at Congregational Church of the Valley. 
 
COUNCILMEMBER HARRIS mentioned the Ready Set Go Foundation Mental Health Awareness 
Event for youth on Sunday, January 15 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Main Event.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER HARRIS will be in the Mesa Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER ENCINAS announced the Celebration of Unity events Be the Change – Finding 
Your Movement event on Saturday, January 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Downtown 
Library; as well as the Multicultural Fashion Show on Friday, January 13 from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. 
at Basha Library.  
 
VICE MAYOR ORLANDO thanked Council, staff, and residents of Chandler.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER STEWART congratulated Mayor Hartke and Vice Mayor Orlando on their 
reappointment to Council, and welcomed Councilmember Poston and Councilmember Encinas. 
 
COUNCILMEMBER STEWART shared that he serves on the Maricopa Association of Governments 
Transportation Policy Committee, overseeing the Regional Transportation Plan and Proposition 
400. Councilmember Stewart looks forward to serving Chandler on this committee. 
 
COUNCILMEMBER STEWART mentioned different Chandler International Film Festival events and 
encouraged everyone to attend.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER ELLIS welcomed Councilmember Encinas and Councilmember Poston.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER ELLIS introduced the Regional Unity Walk event on January 28, beginning at 
4:30 p.m. at Tempe Town Lake.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER ELLIS mentioned the South Chandler Historical Conservation District 
Celebration, there will be signs designating the historical neighborhood.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER ELLIS recognized Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. 
 
COUNCILMEMBER POSTON shared that she will be serving on the Maricopa Association of 
Governments Economic Development Committee.  
 
COUNCILMEMBER POSTON shared that Chandler boards and commissions are seeking 
applicants, and encouraged everyone to apply.

JOSH WRIGHT, City Manager thanked Mayor Hartke and Vice Mayor Orlando, and welcomed 
Councilmember Poston and Councilmember Encinas.
