Domestic Violence Commission MEETING MINUTES Wednesday, December 14, 2022 MINUTES OF THE regular Meeting of the DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, ARIZONA, held at Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, Arizona, on Wednesday, December 14, 2022. THE MEETING WAS CALLED TO ORDER BY CHAIR GRIEVE AT 9:01 am The following members answered roll call: Chelsea Grieve Chair Teresa Lynn Vice Chair Nicole Bruno Commissioner LaTisha Codkind Commissioner Dawn Curtis Commissioner Ruth Tan Lim Commissioner Torey Gannon Commissioner Zoe Flippen Commissioner Aleshia Fessel Commissioner EXCUSED: Samantha Hinchey Commissioner Gretchen Long Commissioner Also in attendance: Katie Cain - Chandler Police Victim Services/DV Commission Staff Liaison Cherry Mae Cannon - Pathways Program Samantha Labib - ICNA Relief Salina Imam - ICNA Relief Manisha Taleen - ICNA Relief SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES Samantha Labib - ICNA Relief Salina Imam - ICNA Relief ICNA is a non-profit organization throughout the United States, serving Arizona. Programs such as Food Bank/Food Boxes, a women’s transitional home (weeks/months) for homeless women and children (under 10 years old) providing case management and resources. ICNA is working on getting information out to the community about domestic violence and assistance for domestic violence. Additional programs in the future are Health Services such as a free Health Clinic, mobile Medical Clinic, Vaccine events. Help is available to connect people with resources. APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF THE NOVEMBER 9, 2022, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COMMISSION SUBCOMMITTEE Motion by Vice Chair Lynn Seconded by Commissioner Curtis MOTION – CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY 3. Approve Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month proclamation Motion by Commissioner Fessel Seconded by Vice Chair Lynn MOTION – CARRIED UNANIMOUSLY DISCUSSION 4. Domestic Violence Event 2023 – Event topic of raising awareness of domestic violence within indigenous communities. Commissioner Gannon will speak with Avion Center to discuss possible dates for the event. 5. Community Outreach Subcommittee – Discussion of Healthy Relationships activity at Anderson Junior High School. There was a good response from students. They were interested in information on Bloom 365, LoveIsRespect.org and the How to Handle Stress bookmarks. Discussed the future schedule for junior high and high schools from January through April. An email will follow. Field of Hope event, DV Commission can use the grass area by DC Steakhouse for Art. CALENDAR Next Domestic Violence Commission meeting Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. Next Domestic Violence Subcommittee meeting Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. INFORMATION ITEMS Pathways was awarded money for additional staff. Commissioner Lim, Gannon and Bruno’s terms are expiring. The Mayor and Council will decide if terms will be extended or if new members will be assigned.
