2. Assign Board Member to Museum Store Workgroup
Martin Sepulveda made a motion to assign Joan Clark to the Museum Store
Workgroup.
Jacki Ryan seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (8-0).
Barbara Meyerson explained the position was mostly an advisory position as a
representative of the Museum Foundation Board on this Museum Staff Workgroup.
Tiffani Egnor explained the time commitment for the workgroup was approximately
one meeting every-other-month. She also explained that there was some work
between meetings reviewing potential products for the store and voting on those
products 3-to-4 times a year. Other meetings discuss which items to place on
clearance, as well as reporting and financial status. Elizabeth Olson is the Store
Manager, and she does all the reporting and financial accounting.
Tiffani Egnor explained the workgroup is made up of Jody Crago, Tiffani Egnor,
Elizabeth Olson (Museum Store Manager), and Janet Castorena.
There is a Museum Store Handbook that outlines each members roles.
Briefing
3. Board Retreat Briefing
Barbara Meyerson commented that this was the first meeting since the Museum
Foundation Board Retreat on March 6, 2023. She wanted to have a discussion and
get the board members’ impressions, views on next steps, and dialogue.
Joan Clark asked when the board would get Maureen Robinson’s (the facilitator of
the retreat) notes on the retreat. Jody Crago stated that Maureen Robinson had not
sent them yet, but he would follow up on the status of those notes.
Anna Camino stated that she would send her notes on the retreat to the board.
Tom Escobedo was curious why the retreat ended at 1:30 p.m. Joan Clark stated that
during the planning meeting, Maureen Robinson had stated that she strongly felt
that after lunch at a meeting, like a retreat, there was not much creative, productive
thought and that ending time was planned.
Barbara Meyerson stated that she took away that the Museum Foundation Board
needed to expand with more members that bring new talents and other qualities to
the board. She also felt that Maureen Robinson was pleased at how far the Museum
Foundation Board had developed despite the pandemic and it being a new
organization. Barbara Meyerson also felt that the organization was on a firm footing
and was left thinking of future opportunities and directions to take.
Martin Sepulveda appreciated Maureen Robinson’s experience, and believed she
confirmed some of the feelings that members had already. She also raised some
provocative ideas. Martin Sepulveda felt there was some interesting ideas that could
have been drilled down into more extensively, by the retreat ended. Martin
Sepulveda is very interested to see Maureen Robinson’s notes.

Barbara Meyerson encouraged all board members to read Maureen Robinson’s
notes when received and make notes on everything that they feel should be
discussed at the next Strategic Planning Retreat. Barbra Meyerson also encouraged
all board members to document all their thoughts and inspirations from the retreat
so they can be shared with Robinson.
Joan Clark asked that the Strategic Planning Subcommittee have an opportunity to
meet with Maureen Robinson to develop the schedule for the follow-up meeting,
taking into account the board members’ dialogue from this board meeting. Jody
Crago stated that a planning meeting would be scheduled.
Barbara Meyerson asked that the board members share all their thoughts on what
should be discussed at the next retreat with staff. Staff will forward those on to
Barbara Meyerson so that she could share those ideas with Maureen Robinson as
part of the planning meeting.
Martin Sepulveda said that the previous retreat meeting made him introspective and
have new perspective (both positive and negative) on some of the early community
leaders, including Dr. Chandler. Martin Sepulveda continued by stating that the
Museum should continue to tell accurate and honest stories.
Jacki Ryan shared that she was missing a discussion on what the ideal state for the
Foundation would be, the vision, the motivation. She acknowledges that the board
discussed some opportunities but wanted to have a discussion if those were the right
opportunities to pursue in relation to the overall vision.
4. Financial Update
Tom Escobedo reported out on the financial status of the Museum Foundation.
Tiffani Egnor mentioned that the money spent for the Mira walls will show on the
March report.
