REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
March 14, 2023
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Dalpe called the meeting to order on Tuesday, March 14, 2022, at 5:00 p.m.

2. ACTION AGENDA
a. Approval of the Minutes of the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Regular
Meeting of March 14, 2023
Chair Dalpe requested a motion for approval of the minutes for the March 14, 2023, Military
and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting. Commissioner Levinson made the motion to
approve the minutes of the March 14, 2023, minutes. Commissioner Waltzer seconded the
motion.
The minutes were approved 5-0 by all Commission members present.

3. DISCUSSION
a. Update – Discussion on hosting a Service Recognition Event recognizing high school
students who have committed to military service after graduation.
Mr. Andy Bass updated the Commission on the current plans for the event. It will be held in
the City of Chandler Chambers on May 9, 2023 with a reception at 6:00 p.m. with the event
starting at 6:30 p.m. Commissioner Facciponti will serve as MC. The Mayor will make some
remarks and the Vice-Mayor will give the key-note speech. The late Jack Holder, the last
Pearl Harbor survivor will be recognized. The following will also be at the event: Police
Department Color Guard, Fire Department Bagpipe Band, the Presentation of Colors, Pledge
of Allegiance will be recited, and the National Anthem will be sung.
b. Discussion on building a Veteran Memorial wall at Veteran Oasis Park to honor fallen,
Chandler veterans.
Mr. John Sefton, Community Services Director gave a presentation on the wall that was built
in Peoria. Ideas that may be incorporated into the City of Chandler’s memorial wall include
the process to select candidates for the wall, and the pricing strategy. Mr. Mickey Ohland,
Community Services Planning Senior Manager, discussed an option for the material to be
used when building the wall/name plaques.
4. MEMBER COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS
a. Commissioner Simon shared with the Commission that there will be an annual golf
tournament for Post 91 at San Marcos Golf Course on April 29, 2023.
b. Commissioner Farabee about another retreat for the Commission since we are winding
down on the three events that were identified at the last retreat. Mr. Bass suggested we
plan a time for another retreat, possibly June.

6. CALENDAR ITEMS
a. The next meeting will be April 11, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
7. ADJOURNMENT
With no further items, Chair Dalpe adjourned the meeting at 5:51 p.m.
