Meeting Minutes Domestic Violence Commission Regular Meeting April 12, 2023 | 9:00 a.m. Council Chambers Conference Room 88 E. March 2023 Domestic Violence Commission Meeting Minutes Move Domestic Violence Commission approve the meeting minutes of the February 8, 2023 regular meeting. Motion: Commissioner Hinchey Seconded: Vice Chair Lynn UNANIMOUS APPROVAL 2. DV Commission attend Chandler Unified School District Meeting to present update on the Healthy Relationships activity with the students. Move to attend the Chandler Unified School Board Meeting on May 10, 2023 Motion: Commissioner Gannon Seconded: Commissioner Flippen UNANIMOUS APPROVAL Discussion 3. Domestic Violence Event 2023 – September 26, 2023 – AVION is the confirmed location and Parker is our contact person. Setup at 8 am and event from 10am-12pm Theme: Honoring Domestic Violence Survivor Stories from Native American Communities. The Mayor and Lt Governor Antone have agreed to speak at the event. Ideas: have a Native American male do a blessing to start the event, have SWIWC as a resource speaker to explain services and address ways to work with Native American survivors, Basket Dancers with Healing Songs, and legislative updates for Native Americans. Commissioner Codkind volunteered to be the DV Awareness Event Coordinator. Commissioner Hinchey will be contact person for Lt. Governor Antone and SWIWC. Chair Grieve will be the contact for community agencies. Discussed limiting video elements of speakers due to the challenges with technology in the past. 4. Domestic Violence Commission Community Outreach Subcommittee – CUSD Healthy Relationships: upcoming school is Hill Learning Academy and Commissioners signed up. Color Chandler Purple will be discussed in Subcommittee meeting. 5. Field of Hope Event – April 16, 2023: Vice Chair Lynn presented the event timeline and will be a speaker: requested assistance standing up the flags at 1pm, event begins at 6pm, and concludes with the candle lighting ceremony. The San Marcos Hotel offered the Exchange Club the courtyard for community resources so the DV Commission will have a table- Staff Liaison and Commissioner Codkind will be present from tabling at 4-6pm. Member Comments/Announcements Arizona Coalition of Sexual and Domestic Violence Thrive “Art of Healing” Gala Luncheon – Tuesday, May 16th at Lighthouse Art Space in Scottsdale. Share Experience for advocates – Phoenix, May 8-12, 2023. An upcoming virtual Share Experience is found on the website. Thank you to Commissioner Bruno and Commissioner Gannon whose terms end in April. Commissioner Lim has been reappointed and we will welcome Commissioner DuCharme and Commissioner Imam. Welcome to Sonia Smith from the Boys and Girls Club of the Valley, Chandler Compadre Branch will be their agency representative. Calendar The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at 9 a.m., in the Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, Arizona. The next Community Outreach Subcommittee meeting will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at 10 a.m., in the Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, Arizona.
