RESOLUTION NO. 5703 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, ARIZONA, AUTHORIZING SUBMITTAL OF AN APPLICATION FOR AN INDIAN GAMING REVENUE SHARING GRANT TO THE AK-CHIN INDIAN COMMUNITY ON BEHALF OF THE CHANDLER PUBLIC WORKS AND UTILITIES DEPARTMENT, BY AND THROUGH ITS WATER CONSERVATION DIVISION, IN THE AMOUNT OF $94,222. WHEREAS, pursuant to A.R.S. § 5-601.02, Indian tribes entering into a tribal-state gaming compact shall contribute monies to “… cities, towns and counties … for government services that benefit the general public, including public safety, mitigation of impacts of gaming, and promotion of commerce and economic development”; and WHEREAS, Indian tribes entering into a tribal-state gaming compact have various grant application procedures for evaluating which cities, towns, and counties, and which government services, will receive gaming revenue sharing contributions pursuant to A.R.S. § 5-601.02; and WHEREAS, the City of Chandler, through the Water Conservation Division of the Public Works and Utilities Department (together, the “Department”), is interested in submitting a project to be considered for funding by the Ak-Chin Indian Community; and WHEREAS, the Department has requested that the City Council authorize the submission of an application for such Indian gaming revenue sharing grant funding to the Ak-Chin Indian Community in the amount of $94,222, for the purpose of funding K-12 water efficiency and conservation education and training, which would expand Chandler’s current water conservation education program to include Kindergarten through second grade and high school education and training curriculum and impact our environment by saving water and enhancing the long-term stability of Chandler’s water supplies, as more fully described in the application materials prepared by the Department, which are incorporated herein by reference; and WHEREAS, the City Manager’s Office has reviewed the application materials and believes that the funding request described in the application materials qualifies as being for government related services that benefit the general public and is consistent with the City’s Administrative Regulation regarding such grant applications. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, as follows: Section 1. Authorizing the Chandler Public Works and Utilities Department, by and through its Water Conservation Division, to submit this Resolution and related grant application materials to the Ak-Chin Indian Community. Section 2. Authorizing the Mayor or his designee to execute the application in conjunction with the grant application to be submitted to the Ak-Chin Indian Community on behalf of the City of Chandler Public Works and Utilities Department, by and Resolution 5703 Page 2 through its Water Conservation Division.
