Resolution 5699 Ak Chin IGA

RESOLUTION NO. 5699 
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, 
ARIZONA, APPROVING AN INTERGOVERNMENTAL AGREEMENT 
BETWEEN THE CITY OF CHANDLER AND THE AK-CHIN INDIAN 
COMMUNITY, A SOVEREIGN TRIBAL GOVERNMENT, FOR THE JOINT 
TRAINING OF FIRE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL. 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Chandler (the “City”) and the Ak-Chin Indian Community (the 
“Community”) (collectively the “Parties”) both operate fire departments for their respective 
jurisdictions and have obligations to train their respective personnel; and 
 
WHEREAS, the fire departments of the City and the Community provide assistance to one another 
with respect to emergencies; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Parties wish to enter into an intergovernmental agreement (“IGA”) for the joint 
training of their respective fire department personnel at the Chandler Public Safety Training Center 
on topics including, but not limited to, blood borne pathogens, electrical safety, confined space 
entry, flashover training, hazardous materials response, technical rescue, hose placement, ladder 
use, and pharmacology; and 
 
WHEREAS, the Community’s total contribution shall be equal to $400 per sworn firefighter 
employed by the Community as of January 1, 2023 and each anniversary of that date for the term 
of the IGA, but not to exceed 90 firefighters annually; and  
 
WHEREAS, an IGA encourages the development of cooperative procedures and protocols and 
fosters improvement in the nature and coordination of emergency assistance to incidents that 
threaten the loss of life or property within the geographic boundaries of the respective jurisdictions. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona, 
as follows: 
 
Section 1. 
Approving the Intergovernmental Agreement with the Ak-Chin Indian Community 
for the joint training of fire department personnel. 
 
Section 2. 
Authorizing the Mayor to execute the Intergovernmental Agreement on behalf of 
the City of Chandler. 
 
Section 3. 
Authorizing City staff to perform all acts necessary to give effect to this Resolution 
and comply with the terms of the Intergovernmental Agreement.
