REGULAR MEETING MINUTES 
JUNE 13, 2023 
    
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL    
Chair Dalpe called the meeting to order on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.

2. ACTION AGENDA 
a. Approval of the Minutes of the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Regular 
Meeting of  April 11, 2023  
 
Chair Dalpe requested a motion for approval of the minutes for the April 11, 2023, Military 
and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting.  Commissioner Levinson made the motion to 
approve the minutes of the April 11, 2023, minutes.  Commissioner Waltzer seconded the 
motion. 
 
 
The minutes were approved 6-0 by all Commission members present.  
 
3. DISCUSSION 
 
a. Update – Review of the Service Recognition Event held on May 9, 2023 recognizing high 
school students who have committed to military service after graduation.

Commissioner Levinson updated the Commission on the Service Recognition Event held 
on May 9, 2023.  The event was well received.  There were 28 recruits that received military 
service coins.  Mayor Kevin Hartke opened the event and Vice-Mayor Matt Orlando gave 
the key-note speech.  Moving forward, the Commission will start promoting the event 
sooner in an effort to increase attendance.  
 
Commissioner Farabee  asked if we would be tracking the progress of the recognized 
enlistee.  Commissioner Levinson replied that the Commission would not be tracking the 
enlistees. 
 
b. Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Retreat – Dates are being considered for a 
retreat for the Commission to discuss goals for the coming year. 
 
The date will be August 4, 2023 from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Chandler Museum 300 S. 
Chandler Village Drive, Chandler, AZ 85226.  
 
c. Review of the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission budget, FY22-23. 
 
The Commission reviewed the FY22-23 budget.  Discussion ensued. 
 
d. FY23-24 Military and Veterans Affairs budget. 
 
Deputy City Manager, Andy Bass, shared with the Commission that there would be a one-
time funding of $8,000 for FY23-24. 
 
4. MEMBER COMMENTS/ANNOUNCEMENTS 
 
a. Mr. Andy Bass shared with the Commission a pamphlet from the Living Kidney Donation 
Charity, DOVE. 
 
5. SCHEDULED/UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES 
 
a. None 
 
6. CALENDAR ITEMS  
a. The July 11, 2023 meeting has been canceled due to the conflict with the other  July Veteran 
events.  
 
b. Veteran Medical Leadership Council Luncheon, 11:00 a.m., November 7, 2023 at the Biltmore 
Hotel, 2400 E. Missouri Ave., Phoenix, AZ  85016  
 
c. The next meeting will be August 8, 2023, at 5:00 p.m.
