Call to Order/Roll Call Ms. Karla Moran called the meeting to order at 8:37 a.m. 2. Approval of Minutes Ms. Julie Trujillo made a motion to approve the minutes from Wednesday, March 8, 2023. The motion was seconded by Mr. Ryan Nouis. Minutes approved unanimously. Page 2 3. Action Items Ms. Cecilia Ashe was elected to serve as Chairperson of the board. Ms. Trujillo made a motion to approve. The motion was seconded by Mr. Nouis. Mr. Nick Wood was elected to serve as Vice Chairperson of the board. Ms. Ashe made a motion to approve. The motion was seconded by Mr. Spangenberg. 4. Briefing Items A. City of Chandler Strategic Framework Mayor Kevin Hartke provided the board with an overview of the 2023-2025 Strategic Framework and how this document created by City Council helps guide decision-making. Mayor Hartke then discussed the Strategic Framework’s six focus areas: • Community Safety • Connectivity • Economic Vitality • Neighborhoods • Quality of Life • Sustainability & Technology He concluded by saying the approaches outlined in the Strategic Framework emphasize providing a high quality of life, diverse job opportunities and safe neighborhoods for Chandler residents. B. ASU Chandler Innovation Center (ACIC) Programming Update Representatives from Arizona State University (ASU) provided the board with an update on the ASU Chandler Innovation Center. They discussed the university’s investments in the ASU Chandler Innovation Center and how the facility is intended to serve as a university-wide, City of Chandler and community resource. They then provided details on how the facility will be used to support ASU students and faculty, local organizations in need of meeting space, and entrepreneurs looking for resources to start or grow their business. The team concluded by providing information on ASU’s partnership with the city to launch the Chandler Endeavor Venture Innovation Incubator. They said the program will offer entrepreneurs access to free resources, including six-month cohort tracks, workshops, mentors, prototyping equipment, and workspaces. The program is set to launch in September 2023. C. GPEC Project and Initiatives Update Page 3 Thomas Maynard, Sr. Vice President of Business Development at the Greater Phoenix Economic Council (GPEC), provided the board with an update on regional projects and initiatives. Mr. Maynard’s presentation included an overview of GPEC’s strategic plan, which outlines the following goals: • Lead an ambitious shared vision for the region’s economic future • Enhance the foundation of the future economy with a focus on emerging and innovation-driven industry sectors • Expand organizational capacity to server the Greater Phoenix economic ecosystems and meet the needs of the market Additionally, Mr. Maynard went into detail on recent Chandler business locates and fiscal year (FY) 2023 statistics as of April 30th, 2023: • 30 companies located in the region • $29.4 billion in capital investment • 7,256 jobs created in the region • $84,164 average high-wage salary He concluded by showcasing FY 2023 Prospects by industry, operation, and headquarters location. 5. Advisory Boardmember Comments None 6. Next Meeting Ms. Moran announced the next Economic Development Advisory Board meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023. A calendar invite will be sent to all board members in advance. 7.
