HOUSING AND HUMAN SERVICES COMMISSION
YOUTH SUBCOMMITTEE

CALL TO ORDER / ROLL CALL
Subcommittee Chair Tony Alcala called the Youth Subcommittee meeting to order at 6:04 p.m.
Housing and Human Services Commissioners and Subcommittee Panel Members present:
Amitesh Bharati, Tony Alcala, Heather Callis, Lillith Ayala, Lisa Loring, and Ryan Magel
Housing and Human Services Commissioners and Subcommittee Panel Members absent: Cynthia
Hardy (excused).
Staff present: Riann Balch, Community Resources Senior Manager, Karin Bishop, Community
Development Senior Program Manager, and Dylan Raymond, Management Analyst Senior.
Public Present: None.
DISCUSSION
1. Evaluation, Discussion, and Development of Recommendations for Funding for FY2023-2024
General Fund Youth Proposals.
Management Analyst Senior Dylan Raymond provided an update on the funds available for
allocation for FY 2023-2024 General Fund Youth proposals and the $10,000 minimum for
allocation.
Subcommittee Chair Alcala facilitated a discussion of each of the following FY 2023-2024 General
Fund Youth proposals. Commission and Subcommittee Members made initial funding
recommendations to be presented to the Housing and Human Services Commission at the next
special meeting scheduled for Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at 6:00 p.m.

Arizona Burn Foundation - Early Childhood Burn Prevention & Fire Safety Education Program
o Recommendation: $13,000

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Arizona (BBBSAZ) - Chandler Mentoring Program
o Recommendation: $14,000

Boys & Girls Club of the Valley Inc. - Reducing Social Isolation Among Youth - Boys & Girls Club

o Recommendation: $14,167.93

Subcommittee Chair Alcala facilitated a discussion in developing a contingency plan for a potential
increase in funding. Dollar figures represent the recommended additional funding to the initial
funding recommendation above.

Motion: Subcommittee member Amitesh Bharati made a motion to approve the initial funding
recommendations, including the contingency plan, for FY 2023-2024 General Fund Youth proposals.
Subcommittee member Lillith Ayala seconded the motion.

Results: Motion passed 6-0.
Subcommittee Chair Alcala thanked everyone for their time and commitment during this process.
