Meeting Minutes Mayor’s Youth Commission Regular Meeting August 8, 2023, 5:00 p.m. Chandler City Hall 175 S. Approval of the May 9, 2023 Mayor’s Youth Commission minutes. 2. 2023-24 Mayor's Youth Commission Dates Move to approve the 2023-2023 Mayor's Youth Commission Regular Meeting Dates 3. National Youth Council Coalition Move to approve the Chandler Mayor's Youth Commission participating in the National Youth Council Coalition Action Agenda Motion and Vote Commissioner Nikhil Dholakia moved to approve the May 9, 2023 Mayor’s Youth Commission meeting minutes. Seconded by Commissioner Maria Gonzalez. Motion carried unanimously. (18-1-0) Commissioner Ananditha Sivakumaran moved to approve the 2023-2024 Mayor's Youth Commission Regular Meeting Dates. Seconded by Commissioner Aashika Dupati. Motion carried unanimously. (18-1-0) Commissioner Nivid Singhania moved to approve the Chandler Mayor's Youth Commission participating in the National Youth Council Coalition. Seconded by Commissioner Ananditha Sivakumaran. Motion carried unanimously. (18-1-0). Briefing 4. Welcome - Mayor Kevin Hartke Chair Nigam welcomes Mayor Hartke. Mayor Hartke talks to Commissioners about what he wishes the commission to accomplish this year, such as building new connections and becoming leaders in the city by representing the city of Chandler at their school and at city events. Group Introductions: Chair Nigam begins Group Introductions. Everyone says their name, high school, pronoun, and favorite restaurant in Chandler. Group Icebreaker: Vice–Chair Singhania introduces the first icebreaker: Would You Rather, in order for the commissioners to get to know each other better. MYC Information: The commissioners review the roster that include their grade year, school, emergency contact information, and dietary information and update it if necessary. Communication: The commissioners make sure that everyone is connected to their two main ways of communication: Remind and Google Drive. Group Icebreaker: Chair Nigam introduces Bingo where commissioners ask each other personal facts about each other relating to Chandler. 5. 2023-2024 Schedule Chair Nigam introduces the 2023-2024 MYC schedule. The schedule is scheduled to change and will be updated in the google drive. 6. For Our City Day 2023 Secretary Lee introduces For Our City Day 2023, Chandler’s Biggest Day of Community Service. This year, MYC will be assigned to a housing project with city managers. Commissioners have until August 15 to register if they want to participate in this event. 7. County Public Health Tobacco Cessation/Prevention Program Staff Alexis discusses an upcoming opportunity for the Youth Commission to partner with Maricopa County Public Health on Tobacco Cessation and Prevention. Next meeting, the Commission will discuss if they want to be involved in a possible partnership with this organization after meeting a guest speaker. 8. Commissioner Expectations Vice-Chair Singhania reviews the 2023 MYC Commissioner expectation sheet. MYC Commissioners must follow expectations for meeting dates and events. The biggest change from previous years is that commissioners will engage in four events, compared to five. Returning MYC commissioners sign an agreement to fulfill their duties as part of this commission. Staff Alexis talks about the League of Conference, which is MYC’s first volunteering opportunity. It will be on August 30th and is in Tucson. Due to the limited space, only six of the commissioners will represent MYC at this event. At this conference, the commissioners will experience professional development opportunities, meeting other youth commissions, meeting other council members, team building activities, networking, and more. 9. Government 101 Staff Alexis will provide a government 101 presentation, an overview of City government at our next meeting. Member Comments/Announcements None. Calendar 10. League of Arizona Cities and Towns Conference - Wednesday, August 30th Informational Items Adjourn Motion to adjourn was made by commissioner Ananditha Sivakumaran, seconded by Commissioner Sanjana Balaji.
