1. November Board Meeting Minutes 
 Joan Clark made a motion to approve the board meeting minutes of the Museum 
Foundation Board Meeting of November 20, 2023.  
 Calvenea Malloy seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (8-0). The 
minutes were approved as written.

2. Approve Recommendation of Board Appointments

 Tom Escobedo made a motion to approve recommendation of board appointments 
as listed. 
 Joan Clark seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (10-0).  
 
3. Appoint Museum Foundation Board Vice-Chair as Chair of the Governance Subcommittee 
 Rich Feely made a motion to appoint Museum Foundation Board Vice-Chair as Chair 
of the Governance Subcommittee.  
 Tom Escobedo seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (10-0). 
 The Governance Subcommittee believed having a member from the Executive 
Subcommittee as Chair on the Governance Subcommittee will help prioritize needs 
and assist with communication flow.  
 
4. Rescind Museum Foundation Action Item from the April 2022 Board Meeting that Delayed 
Creation of the Endowment Investment Account 
 Calvenea Malloy made a motion to rescind Museum Foundation Action Item from 
the April 2022 Board Meeting that delayed the creation of the Endowment 
Investment Account.  
 Joshua Askey seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (10-0).  
 The April 2022 Action Item stated that the Endowment Investment Account would 
not be opened until the Board received a letter from the Chandler Historical Society 
(CHS) Treasurer or a copy of the approved CHS meeting minutes regarding the 
transfer of funds to the Chandler Museum Foundation.  
 The documentation was never received and, therefore, the funds were deposited 
into the checking account and are still in that account.  
 
5. Approve Creation of the Chandler Museum Foundation Endowment Investment Account 
and Moving $250,000 into the Account as the Starting Balance 
 Calvenea Malloy made a motion to create the Chandler Museum Foundation 
Endowment Investment Account and moving $250,000 into the account as a starting 
balance.  
 Joan Clark seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (10-0). 
 The Foundation’s Investment Policy follows the City’s Investment Policy.  
 This will move the $250,000 from a non-interest-bearing checking account to an 
endowment account which will earn interest.

6. Approve the Museum Foundation Governance Goal 
 Tom Escobedo made a motion to approve the Museum Foundation Governance Goal 
with one change.  
 Calvenea Malloy seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (11-0).  
 The change was to reword the first part of the Composition and Reporting section to 
read, “The subcommittee is chaired by the CMF Vice-Chair and includes at least two 
other board members, but no more than five board members.” 
 
7. Approve the Museum Foundation Awareness and Engagement Goal  
 Calvenea Malloy made a motion to approve the Museum Foundation Awareness and 
Engagement Goal.  
 Tom Escobedo seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously (11-0). 
 
Briefing 
8. Workgroup Reports 
 Each workgroup to provide a report-out at the Executive Subcommittee Meeting 
scheduled for February 5, 2024.  
 The report-out is to include a status of what the workgroup has done thus far.  
 Joan Clark created a report-out template for all the workgroups to use.  
 The workgroups are: 
o Board Binder – Brenda Abney and Albert Quihuis  
o Membership/Friends of the Museum – Rich Feely and Joshua Askey 
o Idea Incubator – Calvenea Malloy and Jacki Ryan.  
o Rich Feely and Joshua Askey have not yet met but will schedule a meeting son 
to discuss Membership/Friends of the Museum. 
 
9. Financial Update 
 Tom Escobedo received a copy of the audit summary from Jody Crago. 
 If any board members would like to review the report, let Escobedo know.  
 The fiscal year (FY) 2024-25 draft budget will be presented to the Executive 
Subcommittee for review at the February subcommittee meeting.  
 
10. Executive Subcommittee Update 
 Barbara Meyerson and Joan Clark met with Debbie Rubenstrunk, consultant for the 
Chandler Cultural Foundation (CCF).  
 Discussion about hiring a consultant to assist with fundraising opportunities and 
training has occurred.  
 The conversation with Rubenstrunk provided a wealth of information.  
 Meyerson and Clark plan to meet with other consultants and then will report back to 
the board.

11. Strategic Planning Subcommittee Update  
 The next Strategic Planning Subcommittee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, January 
22, 2024.  
 The subcommittee will be reviewing the third goal at this meeting.  
 
12. Museum Moment: Tumbleweed Ranch Master Plan Presentation 
 A representative from Weddle Gilmore presented the Tumbleweed Ranch Master 
Plan Presentation last year.  
 Jody Crago provided a refresher on this presentation.  
 Tumbleweed Ranch is part of the Museum Division. There are earned revenue 
opportunities at The Ranch, especially as the Master Plan comes to fruition.  
 The different zones of The Ranch are:  
o The Headwaters – this area focuses the early, continued use, and future 
innovation and new technologies focused on water usage. This will be the 
entrance to The Ranch.  
o The Farmhouse – the current two historic structures are in this area. Additional 
structures can be added.  
o Twin Barns – the Red Shed Theater will be featured in this area. Events, rentals, 
and activities will be held in this area, including the Chuckwagon Cook-off.  
o The Tree House – play area.  
o The Shed – large building to hold artifacts, large pieces of equipment.  
o Citrus Camp 
o The Barn – large pavilion area with the ability to host holiday market, seasonal 
events, movies in the park, and more.  
o Pumpkin Patch, Corn Maze, and Gardens 
 The zones will be worked on in phases.  
o The three priority zones are the Headwaters, Twin Barns, and the Treehouse.  
 
13. Museum Foundation Chair Presentation: Think Big 
 The Foundation’s job at the core is to find ways to attract additional resources to help 
make the Museum more visible, more appealing, and get others more excited about 
the Museum.  
 Museum staff runs the operations of the Museum, Museum Store, Tumbleweed 
Ranch, etc.   
 The Foundation is to look at the “big picture;” to think about ideas and concepts to 
grow the Museum. 
 
14. Museum Foundation Brand and Logo Discussion 
 The board discussed having a brand and logo identifiable and agreed to by the board.

15. City Update 
 Several exhibits have opened since the last board meeting: Chandler A to Z, Texture 
of Remembrance (traveling exhibit), and Downtown Chandler at the Downtown kiosk 
and at the Price Gallery.  
 The Volunteer Appreciation Party will be held on Friday, January 19th, at 5:00 p.m., at 
the Chandler Museum. An Eventbrite invitation has been sent. 
 Lauren McCaulou, the Adult Program Coordinator, will be leaving at the end of 
January.  
 The State of City will be held on Thursday, February 15th, at the Chandler Center for 
the Arts. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., with the Mayoral Address at 6:30 p.m.  
 The Chandler Sports Hall of Fame event will be on Saturday, February 17th, at 
Hamilton High School. Six athletes are being inducted, including Brock Purdy, starting 
quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. Tickets will be on sale soon and can be 
purchased through Eventbrite.  
 There will no longer be field trips at The Ranch this spring due to the constructions 
that will be happening there.  
 Additional exterior cameras will be installed at the Museum in the coming months.  
 
Member Comments 
Calvenea Malloy inquired if the Museum will be hosting any Black History Month events.  
 Jody Crago responded there was discussion with two different groups.  
 Due to scheduling and timing, neither group could hold an event at the Museum this year, but 
there is interest in possibly holding a Black History Month event at the Museum next year.

The next Museum Foundation Executive Subcommittee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, 
February 5, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., at the Chandler Museum, Saguaro Room, 300 S. Chandler 
Village Drive, in Chandler, Arizona.  
 
The next Museum Foundation Regular Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 
5:30 p.m., at the Chandler Museum, Saguaro Room, 300 S. Chandler Village Drive, in Chandler, 
Arizona.
