REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
JANUARY 9, 2024
1. CALL TO ORDER/ROLL CALL
Chair Dalpe called the meeting to order on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at 5:02 p.m.

2. ACTION AGENDA
a. Approval of the Regular Minutes of the Military and Veterans Affairs
Commission Regular Meeting of November 14, 2023
Chair Dalpe requested a motion for approval of the minutes for the November 14,
2023, Military and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting. Commissioner Levinson
made the motion to approve the minutes of the November 14, 2023, minutes. Vice-
chair Facciponti seconded the motion.
The minutes were approved 6-0 by all Commission members present.

b. Election of Chair for the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission
Chair Dalpe called for a nomination for a new Chair for the Military and Veterans
Affairs Commission. Commissioner Levinson nominated Commissioner Waltzer
who declined the nomination. Commissioner Waltzer nominated Commissioner
Carol Farabee. Commissioner Levinson seconded the nomination.
A vote was taken, and Commissioner Farabee was elected as new Chair, 6-0 by all
Commissioner members present.
c. Election of Vice Chair for the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission
Chair Dalpe called for a nomination for a new Vice Chair for the Military and
Veterans Affairs Commission. Commissioner Waltzer nominated Commissioner
Simon. Commissioner Levinson seconded the nomination.
A vote was taken, and Commissioner Simon was elected as new Vice Chair, 6-0 by
all Commissioner members present.
3. DISCUSSION
a. Military and Veteran’s Court Presentation – Judge Skupin, Presiding City
Magistrate
Judge Skupin, Presiding City Magistrate gave a presentation on the Regional
Veteran’s Court (RVC). The RVC was implemented in 2016 and is held at the Tempe
Municipal Court and serves Scottsdale, Tempe, Gilbert, Chandler, Paradise Valley,
Cave Creek/Care Free, and Fountain Hills. Its purpose is to assist current and
former military with medical, transportation, housing, clothing, employment,
mentoring, and legal services for pre-adjudicated, criminal charges only. Discussion
ensued.

a. The next meeting will be February 13, at 5:00 p.m.

With no further items, Chair Dalpe adjourned the meeting at 5:18 p.m.
