December 6, 2023, Chandler Local Police Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board Minutes Consent Agenda Motion and Vote Police Member Elect Shellum moved to approve the Consent Agenda of the December 6, 2023, Regular Public Safety Police Personnel Retirement Board Meeting; Seconded by Police Member Elect Kieffer. Page 2 of 4 Motion carried unanimously (5-0). Executive Session - Pursuant to A.R.S. Section 38-431.03 (A), the Chandler Local Police Public Safety Personnel Retirement Board may vote to convene in executive session to discuss or consider confidential records exempt by law from public inspection, and/or to consult with the Board’s attorney for legal advice and to consider the Board’s position and to instruct the Board’s attorney regarding its position on item 2. The Board will take action on those items in open session. Action Agenda Item No. 2 and Discussion 2. New Membership for Bijak, Tewalt, Diaz, Borges, Holland, Shank, Rollings, Chavez, and Van Auken Consideration, Discussion, and appropriate Action for New Membership for Peyton Bijak, Jackson Tewalt, Juan Diaz, Angelina Borges, Zakery Holland, Tyler Shank, Zachary Rollings, Seth Chavez, and Anthony Van Auken. Executive Session – Chairperson Turner asked for a motion to end the Open Session and to move into Executive Session for legal advice. Police Member Elect Shellum made a motion to end the Open Session and to move into Executive Session for legal advice in matter Action Agenda Item No. 2. Citizen Member Remington seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous to end the Open Session and move into Executive Session at 9:04 a.m. Open Session – Chairperson Turner asked for a motion to end the Executive Session and move into Open Session. Police Member Elect Kieffer made the motion to end the Executive Session and to move into Open Session; Citizen Member Crawford seconded the motion, and the vote was unanimous to end the Executive Session and move into Open Session at 9:09 a.m. Action Agenda Item No. 2 Motion and Vote Police Member Elect Shellum moved to find that the following employees met the applicable PSPRS membership definitions for service with the City of Chandler Police Department: Peyton Bijak, Police Officer Recruit, hire date August 15, 2023, with a Tier 3 service date of November 13, 2023; Jackson Tewalt, Police Officer Recruit, hire date August 15, 2023, with a Tier 3 service date of November 13, 2023; Juan Diaz, Police Officer Recruit, hire date August 15, 2023, with a Tier 3 service date of November 13, 2023; Angelina Borges, Police Officer Lateral - Not Certified, hire date August 22, 2023 with a Tier 3 service date of November 20, 2023; Zakery Holland, Police Officer Lateral - Certified, hire date September 5, 2023; Tyler Shank, Police Officer Lateral - Certified, hire date September 5, 2023; Zachary Rollings, Police Officer Lateral - Certified, hire date September 26, 2023; Seth Chavez, Police Officer Lateral - Not Certified, hire date October 17, 2023 Page 3 of 4 with a Tier 3 service date of January 15, 2024; Anthony Van Auken Police Officer Lateral - Not Certified, hire date November 28, 2023 with a Tier 3 service date of February 26, 2024; Agenda Item No. 2 of the January 3, 2024, Regular Public Safety Police Personnel Retirement Board; Seconded by Citizen Member Crawford. Motion carried unanimously (5-0) Police Member Elect Shellum moved to declare one pre-existing condition listed on the pre- existing cover sheet for Peyton Bijak; Seconded by Police Member Elect Kieffer. Motion carried unanimously (5-0) Member Comments/Announcements Police Member Elect Kieffer and Chairperson Turner recognized the upcoming retirement of Police Chief Sean Duggan and thanked him for his service to the City of Chandler Arizona.
