REGULAR MEETING MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
Madam Chair Dykstra called the meeting to order on Saturday, November 4, at 8:35
A.M.

Minutes approved, John David motioned, and Sue McInturf seconded, all in favor.
Briefing
Derek Gerson led the board on a tour of the Chandler Nature Center, pointing out
lobby exhibits and programs offered at the center.

Next, Mickey Ohland shared the history of the Veterans Memorial at Veterans Oasis
Park. Mickey pointed out the features of the memorial and what each feature
represents.
Last, Erika Berry led the board on a short tour of Veterans Oasis Park. Erika
showed the group the Amphitheater where the Sonoran Sunset Concert series is
held, the educational garden, and the park's peninsula. In addition, she shared that
the lake is frequently stocked with fish, and you can fish with an urban fishing
license.
Member Comments
Board member McInturf complimented the job on the Arrowhead Pickleball courts.
Staff Mickey Ohland stated the courts would be opening on November 6. However,
the benches would be installed at a later date.
Madam Chair Dykstra wanted to recognize board member McInturf for providing
Tumbleweed Recreation Center guests the opportunity to view the solar eclipse
safely with her welding mask. Madam Chair Dykstra suggested staff provide future
opportunities to view upcoming eclipse. Staff Derek Gerson shared that the
Chandler Nature Center will give goggles to customers during the spring 2024
eclipse.
The meeting adjourned at 9:50 a.m. Board member McInturf motioned to adjourn,
and board member John David seconded, all in favor.
