BOARD OF SUPERVISORS
Chairman Hickman opened the meeting and asked the Clerk to call the roll,
The Board of Supervisors of Maricopa County, Phoenix, Arizona, convened in Special Session 
at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 5, 2023, in the Supervisors' Conference Room, 301 W. Jefferson, 
10th Floor Phoenix, AZ 85003, with the following members present:  Clint Hickman, Chairman, 
District 4; Jack Sellers, Vice Chairman, District 1 (remote); Thomas Galvin, Supervisor, District 
2 (remote); Steve Gallardo, Supervisor, District 5. Absent:  Bill Gates, Supervisor, District 3. 
Also present: Juanita Garza, Clerk; Jen Pokorski, County Manager; Andrea Cummings, Legal 
Counsel; Kelly Gardiner, Minutes Coordinator.
ACTION
1.
APPOINTMENT FOR LEGISLATIVE STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 26
Pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1202, receive the names of the three qualified electors as 
candidates to fill the vacancy for the Legislative District 26 State House Representative 
seat as submitted by the Legislative District 26 Precinct Committeemen and appoint 
one of the candidates from the list to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of State 
House Representative Flavio Bravo.
The three candidate names submitted by the District are:
• Quantá Crews 
• Veronica Monge
• Christian Solorio (C-06-23-703-X-00)
Chairman Hickman read the agenda item and turned it over to Supervisor Gallardo as 
he represents this district. He thanked the Chairman for calling this Special meeting to 
fulfill their statutory responsibility. He stated the Precinct Committeemen for LD 26 
submitted the names of three candidates for this position. These candidates went 
through the usual background checks and interview processes for consideration. 
Supervisor Gallardo made the recommendation to appoint Quantá Crews to fill the seat 
for Legislative District 26. He gave a summary of Ms. Crews’ involvement and 
accomplishments in the community and stated her qualifications are well suited for this 
position.

Motion to approve the appointment of Quantá Crews to fill the Legislative State 
Representative District 26 seat by Supervisor Steve Gallardo, seconded by Supervisor 
Thomas Galvin
Supervisor Galvin thanked Supervisor Gallardo and the Legislative Districts for 
performing their statutory duties in this process. 
Chairman Hickman thanked the Maricopa County departments who contributed their 
time to this appointment process. He also thanked all three candidates.
Ayes: Clint Hickman, Jack Sellers, Thomas Galvin, Steve Gallardo
Absent: Bill Gates
Chairman Hickman invited Ms. Crews to come to the dais and speak.
Ms. Crews said she was honored and thanked the Board for selecting her and giving 
her the opportunity to serve. She said she looks forward to working with the Legislature 
and Governor Hobbs to move Arizona forward. Ms. Crews introduced her friend, 
Cherlyn Hodge, who came to support her this morning.
Supervisor Gallardo said thank you and welcome to Ms. Crews and noted that the 
appointment of Ms. Crews to the Legislature brings the total to 28 women in the 
legislature and a level of diversity that is currently not represented.

There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting was adjourned.
