Briefly explain why you would like to serve on the board / commission
My professional background in psychology, combined with my personal experience raising two
children with rare diseases, makes me an ideal candidate for the Mayor's Committee for People
with Disabilities. My psychology expertise gives me a deep understanding of the psychological and
emotional challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and their families. This knowledge is
crucial when advising on policies related to mental health support, educational accommodations,
and employment opportunities. Raising my children has given me firsthand experience navigating
the complexities of the healthcare system, accessing specialized services, and advocating for their
needs. I understand the importance of accessible facilities, inclusive education, and supportive
employment environments. My personal journey has instilled in me a passion for advocating for
the rights and well-being of individuals with disabilities, which will drive my commitment to serving
on the committee and making a real difference. I believe my unique perspective, combining
professional and personal experiences, can enrich the committee's discussions and decision-
making processes. I can bring valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities faced by
individuals with disabilities and their families, helping to shape policies that are truly responsive to
their needs. Serving on this committee would be an honor, allowing me to demonstrate my
commitment to my community and my desire to make a positive impact by improving the lives of
individuals with disabilities.
