Resolution 5830

RESOLUTION NO. 5830 
 
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHANDLER, 
ARIZONA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY TO ENTER INTO A GRANT 
AGREEMENT WITH THE GILA RIVER INDIAN COMMUNITY IN AN 
AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $50,000; AND AUTHORIZING THE CITY 
MANAGER, OR DESIGNEE, TO EXECUTE THE GRANT AGREEMENT AND 
TAKE OTHER ACTION NECESSARY OR APPROPRIATE TO IMPLEMENT 
THE GRANT. 
 
WHEREAS, Proposition 202 approved gaming contracts with Arizona Native American communities 
and requires that tribes share gaming revenue with the State; and 
 
WHEREAS, a portion of the State share of gaming revenue must be set aside for grants to cities, 
towns or counties for government services that benefit the general public for various approved 
purposes; and 
 
WHEREAS, the City of Chandler applied to the Gila River Indian Community (“GRIC”) for grant 
funds to create a new education center at the City of Chandler Nature Center, located within 
Veteran’s Oasis Park, called Chandler Native Plant Oasis that will educate the community about 
Sonoran Desert ecology, sustainable landscape maintenance, desert flora, and desert conservation; 
and 
 
WHEREAS, GRIC notified the City that its grant application has been approved; and  
 
WHEREAS, the grant funds will primarily fund landscape supplies, park furniture and signage on 
a reimbursement basis. 
 
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council of the City of Chandler, Arizona: 
 
Section 1.    Approves an agreement between the City of Chandler and GRIC in a form to be 
approved by the Chandler City Attorney. 
 
Section 2.   Authorizes the Mayor of the City of Chandler, the City Manager, or designee(s) to 
accept the funds and execute the agreement on behalf of the City of Chandler and 
to execute all documents and take all actions necessary or appropriate to carry out 
the terms of the agreement and the grant requirements.
