Meeting Minutes Human Relations Commission Sub Committee Meeting August 14, 2024 | 6:00 p.m. Chandler City Council Chambers 88 E. Chicago St., Chandler, AZ Call to Order The meeting was called to order by Chair Maxwell at 6:00 p.m. Roll Call Commission Attendance Staff Attendance Chair Erica Maxwell Niki Tapia, DEI Officer Vice Chair Kriti Argwal Dara Gibson, Special Events Sr. Specialist Commissioner Betty Ramirez Commissioner Tyler Conaway Commissioner John Anguiano Discussion DEI Strategic Plan The committee dedicated time to reviewing and discussing how they could contribute to the DEI Strategic Plan through interactions with local international small businesses. Argwal suggested having a table at the Multicultural Festival where they could be highlighted, which the committee agreed would help advance cultural opportunities within the community. A list of businesses to reach out to will be identified and gathered. New Projects Tapia displayed the DEI Strategic Plan on the screen to review its status. Goal 5 of the plan involves HRC members reviewing and assisting to implement survey questions. Conaway suggested using culturally diverse language in the survey, with multiple-choice questions being the preferred format. He also recommended deploying the survey during the Multicultural Festival, offering giveaways to incentivize participation, and placing an A-frame with QR codes near food areas where people wait in line. He proposed interviewing vendors after the event, Page 2 of 2 Agwal recommended offering the survey in both English and Spanish. Rameriz suggested keeping the survey very short, with just 5 multiple-choice questions. Tapia stated that the survey would be used at all events throughout the year, with a goal of collecting 1,000 completed surveys. As the meeting concluded, there was a consensus that the survey should be brief and include direct questions that align with the data being sought. Calendar The next regular meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 4, at 6 p.m., in the Chandler City Council Chambers, 88 E.
