The meeting was called to order by Chair Farabee at 5:03 p.m.

Consent Agenda
1. September 2024 Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Meeting Minutes
Move Military and Veterans Affairs Commission approve the meeting minutes of the
September 10, 2024 regular meeting.
2. Approve combining 2024 Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Retreat with the Regular
December meeting
3. Approve final updates to Veteran Resource Brochure

Comm. Levinson moved to approve the Consent Agenda; seconded by Comm. Dalpe.
Motion carried 5-0.
Action Agenda
4. Discussion and possible action regarding 2025 meeting schedule for Military and Veterans
Affairs Commission
Discussion ensued regarding the November 2025 meeting date, with a consensus
emerging that the meeting should be held Tuesday, November 4, 2025. Comm. Levinson
moved to approve the amended schedule; seconded by Comm. Dort. Motion carried 5-0.
Discussion
5. Discuss updates regarding memorial for the 50th anniversary of the fall of Saigon, to be
held April 26, 2025
Chair Farabee and Mr. Povar provided an update on the planning meeting they attended
on October 4. The location has been updated to the City Hall courtyard due to logistical
concerns. Comm. Dalpe suggested inviting the Department of Veterans Services Discussion
ensued.
6. Discuss updates regarding the Veterans Day event, to be held November 11, 2024
Comm. Dalpe advised that Bruce Crandall would not be able to attend, but that he would
locate a speaker. A start time of 5 p.m. was agreed upon, so that attendees would be there
to see the lights at the memorial. Chair Farabee suggested that attendees be invited to start
arriving at 4 p.m., with the program to commence at 5 p.m. Vice Chair Simon advised that
Valley of the Sun would be attending and would likely have snacks to hand out. Comm. Dort
asked what the deadline should be for the remaining action items; Chair Farabee advised
that Friday, October 11 would be acceptable.
7. Discuss updates regarding the Senior Center's Military Appreciation Breakfast, to be held
November 8, 2024
Comm. Dalpe advised that the Uncommon had agreed to a partial sponsorship of the event
again, and that he had a contact who would arrange pickup.
8. Discuss Potential Retreat Topic: Effecting Larger-scale Change

Chair Farabee provided a copy of Chandler City Code § 2-22, which established the
Commission. She asked that Commissioners review § 2-22.2 concerning the Commission’s
duties prior to the retreat.
9. Discuss updates regarding external events
Comm. Dalpe:
• Reminder about Stand Up for Veterans and Falcon Field events
• Numerous parades and events on Veterans Day, November 11, 2024
• Pearl Harbor memorial – December 7, 2024, at Wesley Bolin Plaza Stadium, at 10:55
a.m.
• Semicolon Society – resource event on November 15, 2024, at the Chandler
Community Center
• Arizona Veterans’ Mission Group – pickleball tournament and fundraiser on
November 11, 2024, at 4950 W. Ray Rd.
Vice Chair Simon:
• American Legion Post 27 (Apache Junction) – Stand Down event on October 19, 2024,
from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. at 1018 S. Meridian Rd.

10. The next Military and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting will be held November 12, 2024,
at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago St.
Information Items
11. Treasury Report - Luke Tasker, Commission Secretary
Mr. Tasker advised that minimal funds had been spent on the Commission’s business cards,
and that the pop-up tent purchase fell in the current fiscal year.
