MINUTES OF THE CHANDLER ARTS COMMISSION MEETING TUESDAY, November 19, 2024 5:00 PM Commissioners Present: Shachi Kale, Rosanna Lantigua, Tim Wiant, Julie Ray, Mahfam Moeeni-Alarcon, Darrell Dick Commissioners Absent: Caitlin Penny Staff Present: Peter Bugg, Jerry Cabezudo CALL TO ORDER The meeting was called to order at 5:02 PM by Julie Ray UNSCHEDULED /SCHEDULED PUBLIC APPEARANCES / CALL TO PUBLIC None APPROVAL OF MINUTES a) Rosanna made the motion to approve the minutes from October 15, 2024. Darrell seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. ACTION AGENDA a. Select Finalists for Wall Street Mural Peter discussed finalists and the artwork that was proposed. Commission chose the top three finalists: Caylah Cole, Jake Early, and Ashley White. Tim motioned to approve of the selection. Rosanna seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. BRIEFING ITEMS a. Ongoing public art projects I. City Hall Banners The artist will be doing 2 original colors and the community will do 8. II. Gazelle Meadows Park Commission discussed the chosen style and adjustments that will be made. III. Tumbleweed Recreation Center Project is about 2-3 weeks from completion. IV. Teaching Artists V. Vinyl wrap projects Commission is paying for 6 traffic boxes. VI. Goodyear Canal Project Peter informed the commission that they may receive a request for additional funding. Tim asked about a previous question regarding historic significance. Peter confirmed the artwork was deemed relevant. b. Maintenance Projects I. Angel Statue Jerry is starting the process to get it resolved. c. External Project Requests I. New Museum art location Peter proposed an idea to use one of the museums old for advertising or to display Jon Arvizu’s Mural. MEMBERS COMMENTS / ANNOUNCEMENTS Shachi is working on her mural still, but no new updates. Rosanna will be at the multicultural festival. Julie’s daughter will be at a business fair selling her art. CALENDAR a. Holiday Party will be Dec. 10, 2024, 5p at the home of Matt Halle b. Next regular meeting will be Jan. 21, 2025 via Microsoft Teams INFORMATION ITEMS Resident Survey The City of Chandler is starting its budget process and encourages residents to provide their thoughts about the community and its future. Starting Monday, Nov. 25, Chandler residents will be able to find the survey at chandleraz.gov/budget and will be available through Friday, Jan. 10, 2025. City staff asks residents to answer at least the first six general questions of the survey which should take about two minutes. The remaining questions allow you to provide funding priorities as well as feedback on the Council Strategic Focus Areas. You can share thoughts and ideas on any or all of the topics including open text boxes for comments. The budget survey results are shared with the Mayor, City Councilmembers, City Manager and staff to assist in the formulation of the city’s financial plan. Please take this opportunity to let us know what is going well, and what could use some additional attention during the next Budget Year. In addition to the online survey, paper copies will also be available in English, Spanish and Mandarin Chinese, and may be picked up at various city facilities, including libraries, community centers and the lobby of City Hall.
