Action Agenda Motion and Vote COMMISSIONER Sanjana Balaji moved to approve the November 12, 2024 Mayor’s Youth Commission meeting minutes. Seconded by COMMISSIONER Makenzie Cole. Motion carried unanimously (17-0-2). Discussion 3.Community Volunteering Debrief - Woofstock - Saturday, November 18th 8:30am - 11:00am and 10:30am - 1:00pm The commissioners reflected positively on their participation at Woofstock, where they successfully sold many "puppuccinos" and enjoyed the opportunity to engage with their community. 4.Community Volunteering Opportunity - Polar Express - December 11, 12 & 13th 5:00 - 8:00pm Chair Singhania confirmed that all commissioners are already signed up to volunteer for this event. Commissioners have received the necessary communication and are prepared to participate. 5.Community Volunteering Opportunity - Holiday Traditions in the Park - December 14th, 8:00am - 12:30pm and 12:30pm - 5:00pm Page 2 of 3 Alexis Apodaca highlighted this first-time event, organized by her team. It is the last volunteering opportunity for the year, so commissioners are encouraged to participate. The event includes two shifts: morning volunteers will assist with setup, while the afternoon shift will staff the Youth Commission table with holiday crafts for children and provide additional support to city staff. The event showcases cultural holiday traditions through performances by schools and organizations, as well as nonprofit partner booths offering informational and service opportunities. 7.Teen Leadership Academy Planning The commissioners refined their plans for the upcoming Teen Leadership Academy. The focus will be on fostering civic engagement, exploring youth policy discussions, and incorporating mental health awareness into the program. Activities will include interactive sessions, opportunities for skill-building, and activities designed to help participants better understand how their city operates. Member Comments/Announcements Tumbleweed Tree Lighting Volunteering Debrief - Saturday, December 3rd Commissioners shared their experience volunteering at the Tumbleweed Tree Lighting event. They actively participated in judging the floats based on the creative use of lights, originality, and overall presentation. The commissioners determined the winner and noted that the experience was both enjoyable and rewarding. They highly recommend participation in this event for next year.
