The meeting was called to order by Chair Farabee at 5:01 p.m.

Consent Agenda
1. November 2024 Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Meeting Minutes Move Military
and Veterans Affairs Commission approve the meeting minutes of the November 12 regular
meeting.
2. December 2024 Military and Veterans Affairs Commission Meeting Minutes Move Military
and Veterans Affairs Commission approve the meeting minutes of the December 10 work
session.
Comm. Levinson motioned to approve the consent agenda, seconded by Comm. Dort. Motion
carried 5-0.
Action Agenda
3. Election of Chair for the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission

Comm. Dalpe nominated Vice Chair Simon; Comm. Dort nominated Comm. Levinson.
Comm. Levinson was elected 3-2.
4. Election of Vice Chair for the Military and Veterans Affairs Commission
Comm. Dalpe nominated Vice Chair Simon for a second term. Vice Chair Simon was elected
5-0.
Discussion
5. Discussion regarding debrief of Military and Veterans Affairs Commission retreat
The Commission discussed the topics covered at the planning retreat, with a consensus
that the annual WES memo to Council should be prepared by the April meeting.
6. Discuss event planning and assignments
Chair Levinson provided an update on the initial steps taken for the Military Bound event.
7. Discuss updates regarding the South Vietnamese cultural event, to be held April 26, 2025
Comm. Farabee and Mr. Povar provided an update on the most recent planning meeting.
There was discussion regarding the event challenge coins; staff will coordinate with the
Marketing team to prepare samples. Additionally, staff will reach out to Chuck Byers to
confirm his availability as the speaker for the segment honoring Vietnam veterans.
8. Discuss updates regarding external events
Comm. Dalpe advised that the Arizona Veterans Hall of Fame was now accepting
nominations.
9. Discussion and possible action regarding tabletop sign for events
Comm. Dalpe moved to approve the sample sign; seconded by Comm. Dort. Motion carried
5-0.
Briefing
10. Commission vacancy update - Corey Povar, Staff Liaison
Mr. Povar advised that recommendations had been passed to the City Clerk’s office
regarding filling the vacant seat on the Commission, although the Mayor’s selection would
not be approved by Council until March.
Calendar
11. The next Military and Veterans Affairs Commission meeting will be held February 11, 2025,
at 5:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers Conference Room, 88 E. Chicago St.

12. Treasury Report - Luke Tasker, Commission Secretary
Mr. Tasker provided an update on the treasury’s status following the planning retreat.
