Proclamation
National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month
September 2023
WHEREAS, September is known around the United States as “National Suicide 
Prevention Awareness Month” and is intended to raise awareness of the mental health 
resources and suicide prevention services available in our community; and
WHEREAS, suicide is among the top 9 leading causes of death for people ages 10-64, 
and the second leading cause of death for people ages 10-14 and 20-34; and
WHEREAS, one death by suicide occurs in the United States every 11 minutes; and
WHEREAS, Maricopa County supports local prevention organizations, educators, 
mental health professionals, and law enforcement, as partners in supporting our 
community in this endeavor; and
WHEREAS, we encourage all residents to take the time to understand the importance 
of mental health education and recognize that taking care of ourselves and others 
includes taking care of mental health.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors 
hereby proclaim the month of September 2023 as National Suicide Prevention 
Awareness Month.
