Discussion
1. Boys and Girls Club – discussed details about teen outreach and rock painting activity
held today, February 12 - verifying activities and times for participation with staff. A
portion of Rock Painting will be given to Serenity Garden at My Sister’s Place.
2. International Mother Language Day Celebration 2025 on Saturday, February 22, 2025
at Tumbleweed Park in Chandler. Details regarding time slots to be filled with
Commission for representation.
3. Domestic Violence Awareness Event 2025- Sept. 23, 2025 at Avion Center in Chandler
Topic – Technology use, abuse and empowerment to safeguard, technology experts,
share trainings available. Professional speaker Alex Palacios from ACESDV has agreed
to be our speaker. Commissioner Perez is looking into the training and will help be the
advisor with this event. Lizette Roeder will also be an advisor with this committee topic.
4. Domestic Violence Community Outreach Subcommittee – Updates for Teen Dating
Violence Healthy Relationships we need to kick off conversations with Chandler
Schools, still waiting on response from schools and superintendent. Katie Cain also
checking with ACP social worker.
5. Domestic Violence Community Outreach Subcommittee – Mental Health Resource
Awareness Fair, Semicolon Society is putting on their own so we will be joining them
Commissioner Tipton will be the contact for this in May of 2025.
6. Proclamation for Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month was read at City Council
Meeting February 3, 2025 and was well received. Add to end of year report that the City
Council is continuing to support us with this initiative.
Member Comments/Announcements
Invite Vice Mayor to speak at the next meeting to answer questions and concerns the
DV Commissioners have as a Commission regarding the pause of Federal grant funds
– on the agenda write “Bridging the gap between the City and services being offered to
survivors in the City of Chandler.”
Have a Commission member write something on City Website on importance of
connections, resources and healthy relationships these are the barriers survivors are
experiencing. Katie will contact the City PIO to be added as a voting item for next
meeting. Asking commissioners to keep track of impacts they are finding.
